Replacing pistons with used ones...
Having some severe oil consumption and compression is down. Its either the Rings and or the Ring Lands ( i wont know for sure till this weekend when i rip the engine apart).
My question is this:
Scenario A) Rings are broken, ringlands are fine.
Scenario B) Ringlands are broken.
In Scenario A, is it safe to just replace the rings? in scenario B i think it would be safer and or recommend to replace both ring and piston. In both cases, i will be honing the block ever so slightly and reinstalling some factory pistons, dont plan on going oversized or forged at this time really.
any insight?

I know your trying to save money but it doesnt make any sense to do all that work and not go with forged pistons. Id rather see you buy used forged pistons than go with factory pistons again.
I assume you already took the motor apart by now. How does it look?

good advice
i bought a set of srp 9:1 D16 pistons for $200 used
5k miles and they're going strong; still haven't slapped my turbo on yet but everything in the motor is a-ok
