Water pump question
Well I bought a 94 accord EX 2.2 from this guy back in April. The car currently has 131k miles and runs very well so far. According to all the service records that the seller gave to me, he had the timing belt replaced at 78,000 miles. But on the repair bill I did not see that the water pump was replaced. Should I go ahead and have it replaced now or not? Because if the water pump WAS replaced it would of been on the service bill right? Thanks
The dealer in my town indicated the timing belt change doesn't usually include water pump.
I've read in other forums that a water pump failure isn't going to take the timing belt with it..
That said, I'd wait another 25-30k and change it then. I just did mine at 93k, and the old one was just fine..why fix if it isn't broken?

Good point, I just want to be sure it wont die on me and **** something up.

BUCK it all depends what kind of water pump failure ,,if it leaks no it wont take belt with ,, if the bearing starts to be a bit noisy it wont take it with but if the bearing comes apart most definatelly it will take it with ,, the pump is driven by the belt if bearing comes apart and i have seen a few of those it get cockeyed to 1 side thus u wont have the same tension on the t-belt thus it will skip a tooth or come off totally from pump grooves ..
and V tec as for replacing the pump now i would not do it unless it leaks or it is noisy if ok replace on next timing belt ..and yes dealer usually replaces the pump i am surprised that they did not ,,and yes again if it was replacedi would think it would show on the bill

Yeah thats what I was thinking, I will just do the water pump on the next timing belt change interval. And the previous owner did not have the timing belt done at a Honda dealer, it was done at a private shop. So I am pretty sure the WP wasn't replaced, and there are no signs of it leaking so far. Thanks guys

Most of the Honda dealers that I have talked to regarding changing the timing belt indicated that they do a full service and replace all wearable parts that they have to take off including drive belts and water pump. I would definately pay the extra required to repalce those parts as it should suck if your water pump goes out soon after you change the belt
Everyone is correct, I get just one more hour labor to change the pump with the belt job, why pay 8 more hours six months after a new TIGHT belt is installed to change a leaking bearing water pump.
Many people cant afford the almost extra $200 or less.
