You could do it that way.... which may work and may not... or you could do it the CORRECT way and get a ball joint press and use that. Whatever you were saying about a jack and jacking it up don't do that... that would screw up your ball joint then you will have to replace it... just go rent the tool or borrow the tool.
Just curious but why are you taking the steering knuckle off to replace the brakes??

well i was gooing to rent one but the yare like 100bucks and the reason i took the steering knuckle off becuase u can't drop the spindle without taking it off. Im trying to get the axleback in the hub and to line up the splinesand i can't get in until i get the lower ball joint up and reconnect the upper ball joint. And the lower ball joint will not come apart i was using a pickle fork and it would budge i thought if i get the top one out the i could get the lower ball joint out so it wouldn't bind but it won't move!!!
also the helms manual is what i was going by to get the knuckle off , i mean how would i get the upper ball joint back together with out jacking it up into place?

go pickup a fork at a parts store, I just did my brakes over today and used one that we had at school. it will set you free. set it in there, its common sense on how it goes in/works. Wack if with a BFH (big f*cking hammer) and it'll come off, it'll set you free
i tried to do that and i have the FORK but it wasn't doing anything and i don't have enough room to really swing a big hammer and i don't want to screw up the boot on the ball joint
you'll be fine, what I did was turn the wheel all the way oppisite of the one you are trying to get off, leaves alot more space.
aside from that, what I've also done is used a hammer on the part holding the balljoint, where it sits in the LCA.
make sure that you have the upper ball joint kinda connected, leave the nut on but on the lowest 2 threads.

Go to your autoparts store and get a pittman arm puller.

Read through that thread.

Here you can see a medium-sized pittman arm puller on a steering tie rod ball joint. Use a larger-sized pittman arm puller for the lower kunckle ball joint.
It is a must that you rethread the castle nut, UPSIDEDOWN, but leave it a few threads deep so the arm puller only pushes on the nut and not the top of the threaded shaft.
