put on autometer autogage, is it accurate?

so i installed the thing myself and the needle idles at 900 rpm when the lights are on. My car sort of rough idles when the lights are off but sometimes i see the rpm drop to 800 and then come back up while im driving. does anyone have any experiance with these? got it for 80 dollars at a local shop.
