OT - those still playing GT4, what have you found to be fun or challenging?
My girlfriend is working alot at home on preparing essays and exams for her PhD and I've been playing video games on the couch so I could hang out nearby without disturbing too much. So I got out the PS2 and the GT4 and started playing again. I'm only about 36% complete because I haven't been trying to systematically complete the game. Anyway, I was wondering what are some fun things to try in the game. I came accross a driving mission that took me a couple of hours to win, the 13th one I believe where you're driving the NYC course backwards and you have 3 laps to catch and pass 5 cars with a Toyota 2000GT. Talk about close racing! After trying that one, I tried a couple of others and they seemed easier. I also tried the drafting ones (bump bump). Another think I enjoy is collecting cars, going to check out the used car dealers every once in a while (I picked up the four flat black Le Mans cars on day 694 for about 8 million$). Has anyone found any other events that don't take hours to try and that are fun?
Beat the JGTC series in a Suzuki GSXR/4. It's certainly doable, but gets you lots of A-spec points, and makes for much better racing than using a JGTC car.
I LOVE that car... one of my top-5.
The driving challenges, trying to get all golds on the licenses, some of the one-make races with a stock or near-stock car (some are easy, others are pretty much impossible unless you have mods, if it's a car I don't like that much I usually go cheap and get nitrous so I don't dump money into a car I'm going to sell anyway). The rally races kick ***, some of them (esp. the ice ones) are damn hard. The "Hard" Tsukuba Wet race is freaking hard as hell in any car I've tried. I think GT4 is the most challenging GT game.

I have completed all driving missions except that last one, try that one.. I can come within 2 seconds..
The last driving mission isn't fun for me, just irritating. Driving that big pig of a car on that tight of a course...bleh. I've completed all of the driving missions and stuff and now I'm just doing the "work" (and it does feel like work) to finish the game. I have to say, the most fun in the game is probably just racing against your own ghost, or trying to get all golds in the licenses. The computer drivers are so intensely horrible that I hate driving with them.
The Formula GT races are all pretty hard too, so that's fun.

right now i'm stuck in the "Professional" series of races due to the "historic" cars.. i get all these old slow cars, and one AC cobra that is faster than anything i certainly have..

Rich, I agree about the computer drivers- even my slow *** is 4 seconds a lap (when I manage to not go off) faster than the AI drivers in most of the F1 races. The two big complaints I have about them: they refuse to go off their normal line if you're next to them (even on a straight), and don't sacrifice a few mph mid-corner in order to get a better exit- if you watch their replays, the AI maintains a constant speed until it straightens out completely, and then starts accelerating
. Even in totally identical cars, it's tough to get any decent racing in, because the AI is fast in all the slow parts of a turn, and slow in the fast parts & any straight following the corner.

The Forza MS AI is insane. It's like a demolition derby or a high speed chase b/c they're spinning you out or punting you with every opportunity they get. it's frustrating because you'll be winning a 50 lap enduro and they'll punt you on lap 48...That kills me.

yup, I hate that too.
wtf is up with that anyway?

One of the hardest things to do is beat the opel speedster one make series. I did it a while ago, but I remember every race being 200 points!! Lotta frustration but oh so rewarding once completed. I'm outside the US right now, but once I get home, my roomate and I are takin' out the last 12%!!

For some reason, the cars in the Opel one-make series make more power than any Speedster you can buy/build. Just buy every go-fast part available for one, and it should go pretty smoothly. It's tougher than most of the manufacturer races, but nowhere near as tough as the Missions or Gold license tests.
THe most fun I've had was actually i.linking with 5 other dudes in GT3. Anyone connect (I'm guessing) via LAN with GT4?
Racing other real people is much better then racing AI anyday and will spoil those who try it.

I like to race at the Family Cup with high dificulty level, I like to take the Amuse R1 all mods, medium racing tires and set dificulty level to about 6 or 8 at Circuit La Sarthe(chicained). This will put you against the JGTC cars and make for a nice challenge, since you have to push hard in the corners to match their straight line speed, it's good fun for me.
I'll work on that one tonight and let you know. I only tried it twice so far and saw I was going nowhere. My guess is that you have to bump your way along. I know that bumping behind a guy is 3-4 mph faster than driving alone.
haven't played in a while but i always found it fun to run the Integra Type-R with just suspension mods, roll cage, tranny, tires, etc. (no engine mods) in the Type-R races....the NSX-R will give you a run for your money.

Haven't played the game in weeks, but that's the one I remember I couldn't yet do (got within 5 seconds). It's also annoying waiting on the line after for the other cars to go when restarting. I only tried this one a few times, but I'm also missing the last gold S license around the Ring. Someone mentioned the wet Tsukuba race. Imo that's a lot of fun (assuming you have the wheel & pedals). It's all about being really smooth and if you want a nice challenge try beating the LMP opponent car (on Hard level) with a stock NSX or something similar.
edit: For the Skyline drafting mission, you have to use the other cars to your benefit. Draft and pass them, then position yourself to allow them to draft you, then draft them again, and by the last lap you will have caught up to the first place car and you'll be able to pass it well before the finish.

i like to build up miata's to their maximum potential and go racing against the JCGT cars.
or just pick out whatever car i'm fond of at the time (ITR, S2k, Silvia, M3) and go testing with it, play around with the setups and see how fast i can make them go.

Yeah, that's what I spend most of my time with GT4, too. I spend very little time actually advancing the game - imo it's boring in comparison to improving on currently saved ghost laps and/or trying out new cars and setups. This is what makes GT4 fun for me.

It takes a lot of attempts to do it right, but you'll eventually get it. I believe you let them pass you and re-draft them about 2-4 times. I tried at least 25 times or so before passing it...
