Default rev limit at 3000 ?

7 months ago I performed a b18a swap into to my hatch.I did the wiring harness myself and everything came out fine.A few weeks ago I blew it up and decided to put in a b18b.When I put the motor in everything went fine until I tried to start it. I cranked it over and it wouldn't start.Found out that problem was the distributor. When I put the new distributor in the car fired right up but it revs to about 3000 to 3500 and wont go any higher. It sounds as if its hiting rev limit or something. I was wondering if it could be the map or tps sensor. Someboby help me please!!!!!!!!Also the car runs a little rough at idle. the B18b motor I installed was an automatic, I don't know if that has anything to do with my problem being as though I changed the flywheel and all of that.

It would appear the ecu is in limp mode. This is usually caused by an internal failure in the ecu, like a chip with a bad connection, or installed backwards. If you're not getting a map signal, it usually won't even come off idle, if it idles at all. Has the ecu been chipped or anything? Try a known good ecu if you can.

Man I have the same problem right NOW. I got 88 HF and did a D16a6 swap and it won't even let me go past 4k RPM on the stock PM6 ECU. I thought it was the ECU too, so I try and put in the PM8(HF ECU) and it's even more suck! I can not even go past 3,500 rpm with the HF ECU. I even change the Distributor too and still the same. Maybe I should try another PM6 ECU..?

First off, are both of you throwing any codes?

More than likely you are throwing a code dealing with the distributor or maybe even a fuel injector code.

I have a tps code (7), i rev my z6 to 7200 with no problem, no bogging, but there is no vtec.

If you dont know how to check for codes, you need to do a lot of searching. Here is a helpful website: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=468260

For me there's NO CODE at ALL the ecu doesn't even blink and there's no egeine check light at all... Heck I even try different crx injector resistor box and still the same ****, but ONE time it went up to like 4,500 rpm then i was banging the rev limter. After that it can NOT even go past 4k rpm.

Its not the computer, I changed the computer and it does the same ****. I haven't checked for codes yet but I do know how.As I noted in the original thread, I changed the dizzy and it started, but now i'm having this god awful problem. All my years working on hondas I've never seen this. I've checked all the grounds and everything thats why I figured it had to be a sensor because I've checked everything else. But one thing I noticed is that when I had the first distirbutor on, even though it would hardly start and run, it still rev'd all the way out. Now thats some wierd ****.

Have you tried anything else, I can't begin to imagine what this problem is, but I know I want to drive my car. Its fun as hell to drive when it runs right. my little torque monster is sick and the doctor is out.

Well I finally fixed the damn problem. I don't know about you guys but my problem was simple just overlooked, the two wires ran into the engine bay for the injectors somehow got disconnected. It must have happened when I retaped it. I must have pulled on the wire too hard and yanked it out. When I did my harness I installed butt connectors so I wouln't have to go through the trouble of resodering the wires everytime I decided to change motors or something. So make sure you check all your wiring and grounds before pulling your hair out. Thanks to all the people who gave me the tips to kick my brain on.

my cars alive, changed the iac valve did nothing then i ran my signal wire from the iac valve straight to my ecu and the power into my injectors and it runs perfect, with the bad signal it was putting my car into limp mode!!!

Just to help out others who might see this thread. I had a similar problem in my CRX after I did a MPFI swap. I had a code 4 (crank angle sensor) and the car wouldn't rev past 3000 rpm.

I did a little searching on honda-tech and found it might be the 4 wires I had running to the engine bay from the ecu. Two wires are for injectors and 2 are for cylinder position sensor. It seems the two injector wires were interfering with the distributor somehow.

So I wrapped each individual wire going to the dizzy with two layers of electrical tape and put wire loom around each one. That solved my code 4, and the check engine light went off, and my car revs past 3000 now.

Just thought this might help.
