Default new header... new sound

aight ive heard about a slight hissing sound after a header is installed. I just put on my megan 4 2 1 about an hour ago and im pretty happy with it. the sound is only when i rev or durring acceleration. ive checked the whole thing out and there doesnt appear to be any leaks. another problem i have is my buddy that was helping me out got a little happy and broke a bolt that attaches the header to the head. its the last bolt on the right. after driving around there doesnt appear to be a problem or leak there though i am going to have it replaced soon enough. do you think this will be a problem in the short run?

you can notice a bit more pick up throughtout the powerband but more noticable the higher the rpm. The sound change is noticeable, haha i think it sounds way better. Im also still on stock exhaust so the pressure is noticable in the sound.

hahaha, i have the same header, with as far as i can tell no leaks too. it still hisses, works great, dont get me wrong, but the hiss is annoying. i think that the gasket that connects the two parts of the header together is crap. even tho it appears there is no leaks, i reccomending getting new gaskets. ive heard that this will stop the hiss

i have a megan header and mine works great. but my buddy has a greddy and his header was making a similar noise, which we found out was coming from a bad gasket. his exhaust has heated up his gasket enough to partly destroy it, and it was leaking exhaust from there. check where all the gaskets are.

^^^^ Well - i think we have enough information to safely say it most likely is the gasket. :thumbs up:

Gasket on the head, or the one that connects to the cat...or the one between the two parts of the header?

ok but the thing is we poped the hood reved the car and there is no sign of a leak anywhere (no visible gas or residue around the gaskets). If it is a bad gasket its going to be a while before i can take all this stuff off again. I dont need inspection for a while anyway.

can you use oem gaskets on it since its aftermarket or do you have to get different ones? if so where from?

Also what size is the collector on the megan racing header is it like everyone elses with a 2.25 in. because i was looking at their catbacks and they have 2.5 piping vs. everyone else using 60mm piping just wondering if they did the same with the header or not?

header does have a 2.25 collector, but its easy enuff to do the collector mod on. and i dont believe OEM gaskets will work, i think that they are too small...<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Tomakit &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

i think mine is coming from the one that connects the two parts of the header together..
