swap or not?
I have done some looking around and i think i should go with a B18b swap. But in looking aound a asking questions some people have said that i should just build my D16y7 and that i can get the same power for less money. i don't know if they are just "D series guys" but i personaly think the swap to the B18 would be my best bet. any suggestions?
B18b's are very inexpensive. Whoever told you that you can get the same power for less money was lying. I mean, you could get a B18b for cheap and probably trade your motor for some parts. Put a vtec head on it and you are doing pretty well. Put a turbo on you are way ahead of a d-series. Build the motor and crank the boost and they will never catch you.
Well, I shouldn't say ever, but you will always get better tunability out of a dual cam, there is far more torque in the B18b, and the overall potential is just greater.
Don't get me wrong, the d-series can be a great motor. I am sure you can easily put down mid-200 hp on them fairly easily, but they can only go so far.

Swap if you have no time to play around with the car and just want to drop an engine in it and be done with it.
Don't swap if you want to fool around with it and learn a thing or two along the way.

i think i will come out just as good and cheaper with the b18. but i don't know, b/c i have not done any research on the B20, do you know the stats on a B20?
B18B's are known for their low-end torque. Kinda sad that I sold mine before I ever put it in the car.
They're really not that expensive, 500-600 for the motor, 400-800 for your tranny, 100 for ECU, 100 for shift linkage, couple hudnred if you need a new clutch, plus oil and other fluids.
If you can install it yourself you'll save a few hundred bucks, if not installation can be expensive unless you live by one of these magical HT heads that can do it for you.
But you could always turbo the D.

i was kinda dissapointed with my b18b swap. though it felt faster, in actuality it wasnt much faster than the sohc vtec that i had previously. however, it can take much more hp on a stock block, and now ive got a turbo on there (my dyno #s are in my sig).
if i were in your situation, my options would be do a mini me, or ls swap. the ls moves much nicer with a gsr tranny instead of the ls one, if you can get one do it.
the other main factor is how much you can do yourself. labor for the swap has the potential to more than the motor and parts themselves, which kinda sucks

How much power do you want to make???
For the cost of the LS motor and tranny alone you can boost the D16... I would love to see a I/H/E B18b catch a boosted D, not happening...
If you plan on making anything more than 250whp go with a B18...

well, i think i have made my mind up to just build my D. for starts i am going to buy a Gude performance head package that gives 40 WHP. becides i think it will be kinda fun building a 200+ hp SOHC that can beat DOHC!
Goals are what kept me from swapping the B in. It's a honda, I'll get another car in a few years that starts where the honda left off, and go from there.
I only wanted 200+/- HP, and I can do that w/ a boosted D.
Another thing that kept me from doing the swap were the 400+HP SOHC guys.

I would build the d16. I can hook you up with a jdm d15b head with 28K and intake manifold with injectors and fuel rail and sensors for like $250.00 shipped to you. All you will need is a timing belt, water pump and headgasket and ecu. Its very simple to do and you will fell a big difference.
