Default head gasket help!!

1993 cx

i am about to replace my head gasket and the only thing i am worried about is the timing belt since i have little experience with it. since im only changing the head gasket, would i have to totally remove the timing belt or could i just slip it off? would i have to remove the crank pulley bolt that everyone has trouble with?? thanks everyone.

Just slip it off. Have everything at TDC first and your set.

since its a sohc just line up the tdc marks now before you pull the head and dont turn the crank or cam. take the belt off, pull the head, change gaskets, put the head back on and put the belt back on. timing belts on sohc are really easy. just dont forget that damn L - bracket on the back of the head and block that connects them together. I hate that thing, hehe

ive never changed a single cam but wouldnt the cam gear but to tight to simply "slip" back on - i would suggest changing out the timming belt, and the water pump at the same time to safe your self the hassel( at a later time that is

i wouldnt recommend using old parts but some people do. Heck I had to rebuild my bottom end last month, water pump, oil pump, timing belt and tensioner had like ~25,xxx miles on it but i still replaced it all.

Just slide off the belt and make sure you get new head bolts. Line up all of your tdc marks and adjust the valves and youll be good to go.

make sure that the old head gasket is not stick to the surface of the cylinder head before installing the new one. Major leak problems occur and youll eventually loose compression and oil.
