Default Autosport Magazine (and other motorsport mags) F1, rally, BTCC...

anyone subscribe to autosport magazine? i know the $179 yearly subscription is pretty steep, but anyone else here crazy enough to buy that? considering its a WEEKLY magazine, thats less than $3.50 a week/issue. the content in it seemed pretty darn good. covers a wide array of motorsports too.

anyone else subscribe to OTHER magazines (eg. F1) and give their opinion?

I usually just browse AUTOSPORT at Border's or Tower Records. If the issue has something I like, I'll buy it.

I subscribed to Champ Car Magazine (put out by the folks at RACER) but the magazine didn't last the three years I subscribed. I had the option for a refund or to finish out the subscription with RACER. I chose RACER, since it turned out to about a dollar per issue.

I subscribed to F1 for a couple of years, until it went defunct and I was given the option of transferring my subscription to Formula 1 Racing or a refund. I chose F1 Racing, but it's just not as good as the old F1 mag was. I always enjoy Peter Windsor's articles, though.

I subscribed to Autosport for a couple of years but it came so inconsistently, that I got frustrated. Finally, a copy came that had a pop can ring on an inside page: I think my mail carrier was swiping and reading them, and delivering them whenever...

MotorSport magazine is probably my favorite. They have a lot of technical articles and some of the best pictures ever to grace a restroom.

Racecar Engineering is another good one if you can find it.

I've been a subscriber of Autosport Magazine for nearly 4 years. I grew up in Europe and spent considerable time in England as attending F3 races and other lower formula races.

Autosport is expensive but it's the only way to get any GP2 (formerly F3000), F3, and other European coverage.

I used to get both the F1 magazines but neither was very good and there are only so many stories you can do on 18 drivers.

Motorsport is also a good publication that focuses on racecars and drivers from the past.

Regards,

Jon Kofod

I used to subscribe to Autosport, too. I was hoping that when Racer Communications was purchased by Haymarket, the company who also publishes Autosport, it would pave the way for a cheaper US subscription. So far that hasn't happened.

youre right about the high prices, thats why i just read it on the newsstand. being weekly is a big advantage, and the tech articles by Piola are good.

I liked OnTrack Magazine. It was a weekly racing mag along the lines of AUTOSPORT. In fact, both magazines shared the major open-wheel and NASCAR stories by Gordon Kirby, Peter Windsor, Tony Dodgins, etc.

i assume that magazine no longer exists as well?

i definately do the barnes and noble magazine check every once in a while as well. but i dont go every week. once a month at most, and even altely i dont have the time. i can skim thru most of the good mags prety quickly (TWO, EVO, Racetech, T3...) in one sitting and im done. i was just impressed by the amount of content in a weekly mag in autosport to have it delivered every week, hopefully, and then i wouldnt miss anything. seems like great toilet material, and thats a compliment.

doesnt seem like anyone has anything bad to say about it. $3.50 per issue/week is a lot less than i spend on coffee or soda. im not going to even go into comparing it to pink alcoholic slushies....

OnTrack was around up until 2001 or so. They had an online version and I think they stopped the print version to concentrate on the online version but that didn't work out either.
