Default How much will a S-AFC help in increaseing gas mileage?

Yet another mileage question. Bare with me please.

Will installing a SAFC and leaning out the gas in the 2-3k RPM range help drastically with mileage? Will it help at all? Will it hurt the engine?

I ask because I have no idea about the SAFC or how it really works. I'm wondering if one of these things will help me or not.

It would be even better if one could be set up for certain "modes" and have a normal mode where fuel is left normal, and a "lean" mode which is used for highway driving.

Anyway, besides all of the previous questions, how much can I lean out the fuel without hurting the engine?

2%? I thought that all of the SAFC I've seen say that they can do up to +/- 50%.

If you have a wideband you can dial it back to about 15:1 or 15.5:1, but any more and it's going to start stumbling and maybe knocking due to running lean. Unless you're going on a HUGE trip, it's probably not worth it. Maybe 2-3mpg at best.

Leave your car alone, the stock ecu runs at 14.7-14.9 at cruising speeds which is best for engine longevity and mileage. Why try and lean it out more and risk damage, plus you are going to need a wideband to se exactly wha you are doing wit the afc. If you are looking for better mileage, do a good tuneup, plugs, wires, cap , rotor , fuel filter, airfilter, and an 02 sensor. Also make sure your tires are properly inflated.
