Default acceleration problem

i blew the timing belt on my 89 ef, so i replaced it. when i took the car out for a drive, it woudlnt accelerate like it used to. i press the gas and i it would accelerate very slowly, but when i would floor it the car would accerate like normal. after i parked the car with the engine on it started to make a noise. do i need to change somethin else besides the timing belt? thanks

Sounds like the Timing is Off... Double check you have it lined up with the right lines on the crank pulley =]

to locate TDC...i put a screwdriver in the first cylinder and rotated the crankshaft pully until the screwdriver went all the way up. Then i postioned the "up" arrow to the top of the cam pulley. does that sound right? i quess ill try it again. thanks for the replies

some ppl find this method to be useful...but if you do not do it correctly and the #1 piston is on the exhaust stroke you can seriously f things up..there is a tool you can buy that you put in place of the spark plug in the #1 cylinder it makes a whistling noise when the piston is on the compression stroke as for the cam there is two marks that should be even with the marks on the head put the belt on, rotate it 2 complete turns and see if the belt is still in the same position (did not skip a tooth) tighten everything up and your ready to go
