Default motor rebuild price?

I'm hopefully aquiring another honda project soon, and plan to do an all motor buildup.

The setup is a gsr motor and b16 trans, but the motor is burning a lot of oil and need a rebuild. So far I've invested in p30 pistons and Buddy Club Spec III+ cams. I plan on getting a valvetrain, head gasket, clutch/flywheel, and all necessary seals for the motor before the rebuild.

Basically I just wanted to ask what goes into a rebuild, and if I am going to be pulling the motor myself, how much can i plan to pay for the actual rebuilding?

You should do the assembly yourself and learn how to do it, and pay for the machine work before assembly. And have someone help you....

Are those pistons oversized for your setup ? If not the piston to wall clearance will be pretty sloppy after you hone the walls and remove a bit of material.

no they're not oversized...so are you basically saying that even if i go with stock bore, it's not going to be exactly 81mm because they have to shave some material off...therefore the piston won't match up perfectly?

It's a definite possibility if the cylinder walls are glazed. Your best bet would be to sell those pistons and buy some oversized ones. Then the machine shop can bore the cylinders and put a fresh hone on it. If you just hone it and theres too much clearance, the engine's gonna run horrible.

Define REBUILD.

there are 2 types IMO

1) Full rebuild
Oil pump, Timing Belt, water pump, Lower gasket kit, upper gasket kit, bearings, machine work, balancing, ARP rod bolts, headstuds, pistons, rings, tensioner, etc

2) Half assed rebuild
Rings, rob bearings, Timing belt, tensioner, headgasket

then, define ASSEMBLY

we do two types
1) balanced and blueprinting assembly
2) buidling a motor

now, for me to check clearances, tolerances, ring gap, etc i charge $600 to put a complete longblock motor together

if you would like to just order parts and put it together, then thats $450. im not responsible if it smokes, rod knocks, down the road etc

I usually reccomend to everyone to do options 1 on both statements.

i'd be going for the full rebuild, but i'm doing the assembly with a buddy of mine.

The only work i'll need the shop to do is bore out and hone the cylinders...and i ordered new 81.5mm ctr pistons...

anyone need p30s?

What the **** are you talking about? So if you bore AND hone it makes it perfect. But if you only hone it there will be too much clearance? Go away.

In any event. For oversized pistons (i.e. the CTRs your going to be running) you don't necessarily need to bore the cylinders. A simple hone to the correct size will be sufficient. Any competent machine shop will tell you this.
