Default Replacing Speedometer cable

Is there an easier way to get at where the speedo cable plugs into the gauge cluster than from below? I can't reach the point where it plugs in. could I reach it if I took the cover off the back of the console?

Yep if you take the cover you can gain access. It's tight, but that's how I've always done it.

How does that cover come off? It has no screws. Do I just pry it off?

The cluster cover has two removable pieces that conceal
the screws..
Look through the winshield at the cover and you will see them..
