Crank But Wont Fire
Hey all I am having a problem with my 89 civic, It will crank all day long but will never turn over?? I have been having problems with my main relay so I purchased a new Mitsuba one from the dealer and I am still having the same problem? what can I do to remedy the issue?? thanks
the battery is good, I can hear the fuel going into the throttle body and I can see spark when tested?? what else could be going on? maybe a bad ground somewhere? or loose connection? Thanks

heard the fuel going in ????
ECU problems maybe ??
might wanna double check disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail see if any gas comes out when you try to crank it ( dont do it too long or youll have a frickin mess)
check all engine fuses ??
and double checked ground connections ??
thats about all i can think off but i dont know everything about EFs yet im still learning
try plugging in a different ecu see if that helps

I had the same problem with my 90 last week... combo of a bad alternator, blown 10 amp fuse and a shitty ground. Check it out and if you still have trouble let me know.
Man i jussted posted something like this a few days ago... Take the cover off your Distb. Make sure that Little Screw is Connected. Mine came lloose and car didn't want to fire up...crank....but no fire =]
Yes do check all of your grounds. I have been in very similar situation 2 times. Both times ended up being a bad ground connection. Don't crank the car anymore just to be the safe side just in case the timing belt skipped a tooth or 2. You don't wanna keep cranking the motor and bend a valve.
Normally if you have everything then you have fouled plugs, but just to check fuel delivery take off the rubber air inlet boot and spray lots of carb cleaner in the intake and see if it starts for a few seconds and let us know please.

If its bad it won't charge your battery, and if your battery has juice then I believe you should be able to start the car w/o a functioning alternator, but the car would die soon afterwards.
I think.
You can take it to autozone to test it.

UPDATE!!
I installed new plugs, still wont fire.. the old ones looked pretty foul.
I sprayed carb cleaner down the throttle body, still wont fire..
I pulled every plug wire and checked for spark when cranking with a ground "screw driver" and got no spark. so Im pretty sure my problem is no spark??
what could be causing this problem?? also where are all the grounds I should be checking? Thanks guys
Also the ECU is pulling no error codes.. just the one red blink when in II

pull the distributor cap and replace cap and rotor. You should be able to tell if they are bad by checking for wear on the rotor or arcing across the cap.
Like i said earlier have you checked that?... i had the same problem... the the black over off the distb. MAKE SURE the Screw is connected so the ?Rotor? but anyways there is a screw that is in there.. you can't miss it. it has to be in for the distb to work.
well if u are going to be pulling the dizzy off check the bearing by turning the **** on the part that connects into the cam
if it turns smoothly then u good if it don't then the whole dizzy is worthless and get a new or used one and it should fire right up

you have fuel...you have air going into intake....but no spark
try installing a new coil and ignitor in the distributor....i dont know how many times i replaced those items for friends that had the x-act problems
yeah try that..almost a guarentee

Alright, my Rotor and cap are brand TEC?? I checked and the screw is in place, the rotor is turning, when I crank.. this is so frustrating.
I just pulled a spark plug and tested it connected and it is "NOT" sparking for sure. Besides my Dizzy, what else could be the possible problem? Any ideas are apreciated. Thanks

also check the main fuse under hood-passenger side.
