Default Looking for comments on two ITC Cars for Sale

Any one know anything of Bruce Shire's ITC Civic? Any comments on the car?

He lists it as such...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Bruce &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
Andrew, the modifications include a race header, MSD 6a, MSD external
coil upgrade, MSD ignition wires, Iceman cold air intake, MSD Blaster
ignition cap, fuel sample outlet w/hose, exhaust flex connector w/
rerouted pipe to rear, tach on dash, Kirkey Performance seat w/ rib
supports and fabric cover, Schroth HANS 6-point belts (good til
December 2010), aluminum panels over doors, drivers side glass removed,
do have plexiglas insert for trailering car to cover window, Tokico 5
way adjustable shocks w/ Eibach coil over springs (replaced Feb. 2005),
steel braided brakelines (Feb. 2005), timimg belt(2003), lower end
redone (2003), (4) Panasports w/ minilites and 225x50x13 Hoosier
slicks, (4) ARE w/ Hoosier slicks, (4) Diamond Chromed steel wheels w/
BFG rain tires, interior painted to match exterior (Red), Battery wired
transponder, hood pins, spare AEM cold air intake, spare OEM dist caps
and rotor, sapare used shocks, spare transmission, spare ignition
wires, spare plugs (three different heat ranges, OEM and race), spare
drivers door glass, spare new thru firewall coil connection, battery 3
yrs old, extra old Honda OEM wheels w/tires, misc. hardware. I have
the HANS device that fits the Schroth belts for an additional $600 (it
definitely cost more than that), I also have a Cool Shirt System
prewired to the car with shutoff switch (shirt X-large) add $225 (only
used (2) times over Nomex underware.
The car does not have an LSD; the rollbar is a sttel bolt in unit to
GCR specs 6 -pt. with a Nascar bar a mid seat level in drivers door. I
won the Central Division Regional in ITC in 2003 ( had 4 firsts and 4
thirds), in 2004 I finished 6 th in total SARRC points and ran 8th in
the SIC, in 2005 I have placed 2nd and 1st at CMP in May. I will be
racing at CMP on Aug. 13th. The logbook is current with 2005 Annual
Tech. Hope this awnsers most of your questions.</TD></TR></TABLE>

And anyone know anything about James Stankard's CRX? Hasn't been raced in two years.

I have run against it several times and it is typically a few seconds off of me.
The car looks good, but with the bolt in cage and no LSD there is nothing super special about it. These cars really need a 4.7 FD to be competitive, and I don't see that listed either.

Could be a great starting point to be competitive or something just for fun, but I don't see a price so I can't say.

I can say that this chassis in this class is amazingly easy on consumables. Brake pieces and tires last a long long time with a good smooth driver. Clutch and tranny wear is also minimized because you don't shift very much.
I can't speak for all divisions, but if you want to be competitive in that car in the south you'll need to put some further money in it.

This reminds me of something.

When you are looking at a used club race car, don't look at its history in terms of wins and finishing position. This doesn't tell you much in most cases.
"10 wins in 2004" sounds great, unless of course nobody else showed up.

Look at the following...
- Fast lap times in relation to published track records (and does it have any track records).
- DNFs
- Finishing position at big events where you KNOW there was strong competition (Runoffs, ARRC, June Sprints, etc)
The added bonus of a car with a podium finish at the ARRC or Runoffs is that you know it has survived some degree of post race scrutiny.

edit - I don't say any of this in relation to Shire's car, just in general.

Thanks, was hoping you'd chime in. Shire's car is offered for sale at $5500 on it.com. Personally, thinking it's a bit high for the work you mentioned it needs to be really competitive when compared with similar cars.

He was 2003 Regional Champ, 2004 SARRC 6th in points.

mylaps.com helps greatly with this. It's much easier to see how the competition stacks up, looking for DNFs and looking at fast laps.

I'm not sure if I should post this because I don't want to get in the middle of someone making a sale or not. But, this rubs me the wrong way that it's being used as a selling point:

Well, technically that's true but here, look at the ITC CenDiv Championship points from 2003:
http://www.cendiv-scca.org/03r...s.pdf

As you can see, I raced that car a couple of times and I lapped it every time. The only reason I didn't win the championship was because I went to Europe for a month and missed a couple of races. (Refer to what Scott said above.)

That being said, it wasn't that bad of a car if I remember correctly. It was put together pretty well by the previous owner (I believe) and it was Bruce's first FWD, closed wheel racecar ever so he was getting use to it. I wouldn't doubt that it's quicker now but that comment irked me a little bit.
