ECU location?
I'm having a little jproblem finding the ECU in fiances's Accord. It's a '99 Accord V6. I haven't had much experience with accords. most of my work has been with older civics. The car is throwing some kind of code and I got a scanner to find out what's going on, but when I checked out the passenger side... all I could find was a blower motor and a fuse panel. Is it on the driver side? under the hood? someone please help me out here. The "maintenance required" and "check engine" lights are on. the engine at idle sounds ok, but the exhaust seems to gurgle a bit (which it wasn't doing before) and the engine seems to want to die out at around 3500 RPM.... I have a few ideas on what it is, but if anyone has any suggestions on what this could be, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Did you only look in the side panel of the passenger side foot area?
I don't know if they are the same but on my 95 EX it was located under the passenger side kick panel. Pull the carpet back, if it's the same as the 5th gens, then you should see a kick panel where the floor and the firewall meet. Under it would be the ECU. Like I said, it may not be the same but it doesn't hurt to look.

since this was resolved.. i was just wondering.. how do you remove the carpet to the ECU without messing it up ... and when you put the carpet back down is it loose now?

umm, I don't remember exactly since I only removed the carpet once and that was when I was stripping the car after it was totalled. But I want to say there was one or maybe two clips that held it into place at that spot. Just pull the clip(s) free to remove the carpet and then just reinsert them to hold the carpet back down. It should hold just the same as it did before. If the clip stripped when you removed it, just go to Honda and get another one. Should be around $2 ea. or so. I had bought a couple when I replaced the carpet in my hatch and I think thats what they cost.

if you have a scan tool, why do you want to find the ECU? I'd hook up the scan tool to the OBD2 connection at the top of the drivers side kick panel. Read the code and diagnose from that point.
I guess I should've worded it differently. But, I hooked up the scanner, turns out it's "air/fuel metering" so I'll start by checking the obvious things first. But that still leaves the question of why the engine doesn't want to go above 3500 rpm. unless it's a safety device preventing VTEC from kicking in.
Anywho, thanks for the help.
