Default Mocal sandwich plate w/thermostat. Any experiences?

I am piecing together my oil cooler setup.

So far I have a Setrab 19 row cooler, all the AN fittings and braided lines. I just need the sandwich plate and thermostat.

Mocal offers a sandwich plate with a built-in thermostat (model number SP1FT). I understand the benefits are for warm-up and winter driving. Has anyone had any problems with the Mocal unit? Also, does the plate have a plug for an oil temperature gauge?

Thanks in advance,
Marshall

I have one and either the thermostat reads low or it never closes all the way. The reason I know this is because my oil cooler lines start getting hot way before my oil temps get to 180. Also, all the spin on oil filters that fit it have by-pass valves, which probably isn't a good thing for a race car.
On a positive note I am seeing 10psi less pressure loss with it compared to my old remote filter setup.

well I know its a 90/10 split when the thermostat is closed, so some oil is sent through the lines to the cooler.

Can the OEM Filters fit on the plate? Isn't it the same thread pitch?

Yes OEM filters fit and I use the Toko Riki made OEM S2000 filter 15400-PCX-004.

So by using an OEM filter, you can avoid this problem.

No. OEM filters have a by-pass valve.

Is by-pass valve not just to by-pass a clogged filter? I would assume if filter is relatively clean, by-pass is not active and oil flows in normal way. In any case seems worst scenario is oil bypasses filter.

What type of AN hose-end fittings do you need in terms of angles (straight, 45, 120 etc.) to fit this Mocal sandwich plate? Also what types of adapters do you need to connect those AN hose-ends to it? Anyione have a picture showing hoses on this Mocal unit???

I too am getting a Setrab cooler with this Mocal sandwich plate with thermostat. Seems like the cleanest install to me. I saw on Mocal's web site that there is a new SP2 model filter for the newer Honda "micro-filters".
