Removing engine, need quick advice please
I'm removing the engine from my 93 integra and i can't get the engine to separate from the transmission. It is a manual transmission and i have EVERYTHING unbolted and out of the way..we're talking bare block! I removed the 5 trans. to engine bolts and took the starter out and I can't see anything else that would be holding them together but I can't get the block to separate from the trans!! The rear side of the block is starting to separating from the trans. but the front side next to the arm that the clutch cable runs to won't even move a hair. I don't know what would be holding it together besides maybe something inside that has to do with the pressure plate or something?? I shook the hell out of it and it wouldn't come free so ANY pointers would make my night go a lot better....I'm going to get out the plasma cutter!!! Thanks
You need a domestic, and a chain... That's all that is left of the process... Helms manual left this step out!!...Chain it up to the back bumper of a 'stang, or other domestic and floor the bitch... It'll come lose! Just kidding... Try and lift up on the transmission while sliding toward the passenger wheel... If you've done what you've said, it'll come lose!
I'm driving my buddies Trans Am now so If I go out there and get pissed off again I just might try your trick!! No, I just need to walk away for a little bit and take another swing at it in an hour or so....A little advice from the helpful people here at honda-tech never hurt anything either. Thanks
There should be two bolts on top, two bolts in the rear bracket, two bolts on the bottom (almost where the oil pan bolts up and they go in from the motor side and thread into the tranny), then there are two for the starter and the bracket bewteen the motor and tranny....so you might have missed the front one? There are also dowel pins in there that can be a bitch sometimes, so I usually end up shoving a flat head in one side and rocking the tranny back and forth until they give up.

By the bracket between the motor and tranny you mean the "Engine Stiffener" is what the Haynes manual says...I got them too...I think its going to come down to a big flathead like you said. Thanks for the advice.

yep that sounds about right....just watch out for that front bolt that goes in from the engine side because I missed it the first time I tried taking the tranny out.....but then again, the tranny wouldnt move at all with it in so shimming is probably going to do the trick. BTW, getting it off is the easy part, getting it back on is the bitch....haha.

I can't wait to put it back in...I'll get a friend to help. I just can't wait to get it on the road again...I didn't know how much I liked my integra until I didn't have it. Oh well, its needed the rebuild for some time now. Thanks guys
I got that fu*@er out!!! Didn't have to resort to chains, muscle cars, or plasma cutters
Took your advice and moved the jack and lifted up the trans. a little bit. I also used a couple large screwdrivers...it was fun, can't wait to install it now. It probably would have gone a little better with a cherry picker....that's why we have strong backs...destroyed my pants though. I better get an engine hoist for the install though. Thanks again for the advice, I'm sure I'll be back for more advice.

Glad to hear you got it out.....if you dont have a hoist to put it back in with then get one person under the car with the tranny on their chest and then one on top to help lift/align the tranny. Again, 90% of the time its a real bitch to get in.....but I did have one time where it went in smoothly in one try.
