Stupid question prolly but here goes : Why an LS crank ina b18c?
I see a lot fo the great number set-ups using a b18b crank in their 84mm b18c bottomends. Why is this? More stroke? or better than the GSR crank for that bore?
It raises our displacement slightly by increasing the stroke. IIRC it raises displacement by about 40cc's. So if you have B18C and stock crank it would be 1797cc's, but with an LS crank you would have 1834cc's. I think it would also give you a slight torque increase because of the increased stroke.
Hmmmmm so in other words, on the future boosted motor it would definately be a good idea? I am jsut trying to get some more understanding of this.

Increased displacement is always good. I've been told that it wont decrease your motors life in any way. LS cranks are pretty inexpensive so if you are building your motor, might as well swap out the crank.

itll basically be an LS VTEC but in a GSR block that has the griddle and oil squirters
using an LS crank you will need to use LS rods also
by doing that. you essentially turned it into a LS VTEC with factory GSR goodies ( block griddle, oil pump, oil squirters and no tapping for vtec etcc)

Yes and no. Yes you will gain a tiny bit more torque....but keep in mind the rod/stroke ratio. GSR's and ITR's have a better ratio than the LS. I wouldn't feel too comfortable revving mine as high as the gsr's. I would say no more than 9000 max, but that's my opinion....get an engine builders (earl's) input on that one.

ive seen a 500 whp ls/vtec rev to 10,000 rpms w/ eagle rods w/ the sissy rod bolts on numerous occasions......
its been done, id be more comfortable with stronger rods. the speed of that moving assembly is quite fast w/ that longer stroke at high RPM.

I guess I am also coming from the daily driver poit of view...10,000 is just a really damn big number haha.
But then again, I'm still going up in power at 8000....maybe I should rev to 10 since its capable.

Right, it is amking more and more sense to me now. Another thing, I plan on having Earl put together my block in the 84mm flavor anyway. CP pistons, Manley rods, you know the works. Trying to extract the most out of this I can. Also considering running a b16 head as opposed to a GSR head.
