<my cell phone rings>
It's johng...."Hi John - what's happening!"
John starts telling me....the phone cuts out....
<my cell phone rings>
It's johng..."Hi John!"
John says "Where was I?"
I say "I didn't really hear a thing."
John starts telling me something, but I can't really hear it because there's a police cars loudspeaker barking something in the background.
I ask John if I should let him go. He's says no, and starts telling me:
Greg had some contact but they got him going again.
Nash wasted the front end of his car - and opted not to take heroic measures to get back on track again.
Edik lost a motor Saturday...
AND THEN THE PHONE CUT OUT AGAIN!
Scott, who knows about as much as Sargeant Schultz....Nu-thing!

wheres the news? that was all saturday. we, i at least posted it, already knew all that...
lets hear what happened on sunday...
lets hear what happened on sunday...
Sunday:
H1: I almost finished dead last. Luckily, Bernardo's Super-D blew a plug right out of the threads, and DNFed after three laps. So I got seventh instead of eighth. Up at the front of the grid, some Asian guy won, and an Irishman placed second, I think. Never did hear who got third, but they were all faster than me, so to hell with them.
H4: Rick "my car is red and so's your ***" Howart got 1st. Steve Elsworth had a big off in 10 and put the ballast side into the wall whilst going backwards. Kudos to Steve for great in-car and a good attitude. Sam hit something. And so did some other guy. I was busy drinking beer when they announced the podium, so that's all you get from me.
The Northwest guys and the AZ boys were all fine fellows, and took some heavy lumps like the true sportsmen. Overall, the long-distance guys are a credit to racing, and are welcome in my pit area any time...
Faithfully submitted, E. John Thawley III

Thawley, you're too funny!
Glad you, the rest of the SoCal group and The PacNW guys made the trip. It was a memorable weekend. The sight of Johnny Mac in short with shaved legs still send a chill down my spine

I've been to soooo many races and my shaved legs barely got noticed. But Infineon, ohhhh no, Mr. Thawley and others had a field day.
But that's okay, I enjoyed the attention. And I brought plenty of SGR tee-shirts to test - cuz remember - I'm an official tester.
I had a blast this weekend with all the totally cool dudes that I got to hang with: Edik Stepanyan, his dad and brothers, Thawley, Schmitty, Jeremy Croiset, Sam Rothschild, Bernardo, Steve Ellsworth, Mike Quan, Jimmy Chilcott, Benny, The Legend - Ron Haase, Ryan and Jody Flaherty, Jerry Brown, John Lindsey, John G from Washington, Andrie and his posse, John Norris, Miguel Escobar, Rick Hohwart, Kenji, and my SE-R homies - Tom Paule, Mike Kojima, Lord Phil Usher and more.
The weed-eater-powered blender made margaritas were potent and had the desired effect. They weren't pink, but that's okay, they were pretty good. The mud slides were like dessert - so I had a few of those too.
The racing was awesome - and whenever the Nor-Cal and So-Cal guys decide to mix it up - you know what happens. Yes that's right, lots of close - sometimes too close - racing from green flag to checkered flag results. Two SE-R's and two CRX's were totaled. Even the Accord pace car had a tire barrier incident that was bad enough that the passenger side air bag deployed. Also, a HPDE driver stuffed his Porsche Boxster into the wall.
So when I wasn't answering questions about my shaved legs, I was over at Thawley's pit trying to figure out why his car had no droop travel, which was made to look even more extreme thanks to his Mack truck model 10-ton jackstands subjecting his EF to attitude sickness. ( I think John is secretly fond of me since he now uses my old number 91 on his car) But that's another story.
BTW, the SGR tee-shirts rule. I'm sure you have another picture of me in the "Johnny Mac Special" black SGR tee-shirt.

me thinks it fell twice.
Ricky D. from the PacNW got it on Sat.
Stevie E. got it back for us CA types (SoCal but we can all claim it) on Sun.
See, the smack talk begins already!! Who is coming next year?!?

If you look at the track record on HC website:
H4 John McNulty Honda CRX 1:56.597 10/26/03
and results from Saturday:

noone broke the record on Saturday.
not sure about Sunday though.
We'll hopefully be back with the DA in full force next year.

I'm wondering just how long before this guy gets a paid ride. Not only is he fast but he's an excellent communicator in terms of relaying what needs to be "better" when he gets back off track.

Hey Mike, the two year old record (1:56.5) fell twice on Sunday. Once by Steve Ellsworth (who currently has it at 1:56.0) and by the Goto driver in 44 who did a 1:56.4.

Sorry 'bout that Scott.. bad timing. The cell signal was coming and going, and for some reason, every time I pick up the phone, the guys in the caravan start to get real chatty over the radios.
Anyway, I spent 13 hours in the truck today driving home and I'm pretty wiped, but I got a few phone calls saying that I had to check H-T for pictures before going to sleep. Good pictures... thanks to whoever took them
Team NW had a few casualties this weekend to say the least. James had a wheel come off his trailer about 60 minutes after we hit the road Thursday busting all the wheel studs off, Roldan blew the motor in his tow rig somewhere outside of Redding, sold the thing to the guy at the repair garage and rented a U-Haul to still make it to the track, Greg smoked his A/C pump which left him stranded for about 6 hours at a rest stop in 90+ degree heat before we brought a new "correct size" serpentine belt, and Greg, Nash, and Roldan all had significant race car damage.
Having said that, it was still a awesome weekend.
The adrenaline was flowing Saturday morning during practice, and we were all being pretty 'racey', and unfortunately we lost a CRX. I was directly behind Scott when he spun and had to go four wheels in the grass to miss him. I'm still not sure how I missed. Scott is a nice guy and he took it in stride. He even hung around for the rest of the weekend.
Anyhow, there's a lot to say and I need to hit the sack. It was great meeting Thawley, Johnny Mac, Sam, Bernardo, Brian, the Lock's, Jeremy, Jimmy, Rick, Edik, Mike, and everyone else I forgot to mention. I had a blast and the movie night thing was great fun.
GO NORTHWEST!

I gave you chills? You got chills in the bleeping 90 degree weather? Sheesh, if I realized that my hairless legs should be so powerful, I would ask Dennis to design a special "Chill Out" tee-shirt with a picture of me on it.

Paid rides are few and far between even in the professional ranks. Many Grand Am drivers and World Challenge drivers pay for their rides.
