Default drain plug gaskets: vinyl or copper?

which type is "better"? i would think that vinyl gaskets are a better bet, so long as you remember to change it each time.

just to clarify, is the purpose of the gasket to create a tight seal without having to overtighten to drain plug? tia.

I would just stick to the honda crunch washers. rubber washers can deteriorate and cause leaking expecially since the surfaces that they have to make a seal between turn on the washer as pressure is being applied causing cuts and such in the rubber. the soft aluminum or whatever they are made of are much better for the honda motors and that is why they are used rather then the rubber washers.

why dont you like stock aluminum washers? i dont see you needing to overtighten anything to get a stock part to seal correctly.

They are cheap, something like 40 cents each.

my dealer includes them for free with the filters, each filter has a washer taped to the top of it.

And on a side note, I came from GM to Honda and I had a 93 Accord, until I moved to NJ and started using a new dealership to get the filters, I had no idea you were supposed to change that crush washer, the 93 had the same washer on it for over 200,000 miles. So not exactly sure how important it is to change every time?

I didn't even know there was a washer it was bascially like part of the plug, I had to poke at it with a saftey pin to get it to come off. But been changing it ever since because they give me a new one with each filter. But 1.50 for a tiny crush washer? that's insane.

Copper and Aluminum Drain plug washers are the preferable way to go. Not only are they mealable (soft and conform to surface irregularities) but they don't split as do Vinyl?, Nylon or Neoprene plug gaskets would if overtightened.
The Honda oem gasket is cheap insurance.

tell me about it man. its funny cuz at cerritos honda i asked for a oil filter for a 96 accord, he quoted me $7.99. then i asked for a s2000 filter, he quoted me $12.99. then i ask for a 99 civic filter, he quoted me $9.99

its pretty ridiculous, i could of sworn most hondas share the same oil filter

correct, MOST Hondas do share the same filter. But like Eddiebx said, the S2000 filters are different. The S2000 filter is made by a different company and are bigger. The regular filter is used by, if I'm not mistaken, all other Hondas is made by Honeywell and are smaller and cost less than the S2000 filter.

They really do overcharge in California, don't they?

MSRP for the S2000 filter is $8.49, MSRP for the "normal" filter is $6.49. You can buy the S2000 filter online for ~ $6.40 and the "normal" filter for under $5. Plus shipping, but normally it's a flat shipping charge so buy 10 or 12 at a time and you'll come out ahead.

I personally have never tried the S2000 filter, I still have 9 normal Honda filters sitting my garage. And don't feel bad about using an Accord filter on an Accord, it may not be as good as an S2000 filter, but it is better than Fram and, I assume, anything that an oil change place would put on your car. And if you change the filter every 4,000 or 5,000 miles (instead of the 15,000 miles interval if you follow the owner's manual) you'll be fine. The 15,000 is for the filter, the recommendation for the oil is every 7,500 miles for normal driving conditions.

if the part number is 15400-plm-a02 then its made by fram\honeywell

if the part number is 15400-plm-a01 , then its made by filtech

if the part number is 15400-pcx-004, then it is made by toyo roki

thats it, thats the brand of the S2000 filter, correct?

also, I thought Honda didn't sell anymore of the Filtech filters? Or do some dealers still have some until they sell out and they're switching to the fram/honeywell filters?
