88-91 Civic DX Problems.... need some imput
hey guys i just picked up an 89 civic dx 4 door for 200$
the car want crank, it just turns and turns
car has new batt, new starter, new alt, i was fiddling with it and un did a spark plug and held it up to some metal to see if itd ark, and had my friend turn it over, the engine made a slightly diferent sound but actually cranked for about 2-3 seconds... however i NEVER SAW an arc or spark...
my guess is between the fuel pump, dizzy, and or main relay
story behind the car, drove it to college on a HOTT day cut it off in the parking spot and never cranked since...
SO, is there a wire or somthing i can tap with a voltometer to check my fuel pump? w/o dropping the tank and actually testing the pump?
and how can i tell if its a bad dizzy?

here's what i can tell you about the main relay. it is of course the relay for your fuel pump. turn your car to accessory (second or third click before the start), you should see the engine/oil/batt lights come on. listen for the fuel pump to prime. it will make a ssss sound. if no sssss sound then your pump or your relay could be the problem. in addition to the ssss sound your main relay (under the very left side of the dash) should make a click sound. if it doesn't you should try replacing the relay before the fuel pump.
i bought a main relay 2 days ago, because my car wouldn't start on hot days. car starts fine now. it is a common problem for civics. what happens is that when too hot the relay can't make the proper connection to the wiring. i don't know exectly why but it will cost you about $50-60 at a dealership. the relay is up inside the dash it was a bitch to get to.

yeah, well its because the soldering in the relay needs to be re-soldered, anyway ive listened for the pump, but cant tell if its priming or not, also even a bad pump, or relay, the car should still have spark shouldnt it... it dosent...?

i believe the main relay is also the power to the ECU, so no main relay, no pump, no ecu, no spark, nuthin.
to listen for the pump when i dont have a buddy to click the key, i put a piece of hose in the gas tank filler and sit in the car with the hose to my ear. can hear it loud and clear like that if its working.
