91 legend a/c problem!!!!!!compressor Turns on and off!!!!!!!
i just recharged the a/c with r134a because the a/c is not even cooling anymore.. When i was filling it i noticed that the compressor comes on for about half a second and turns off..does anybody has this problem with their a/c? Can this be eletrical problem?
You over serviced it and the high pressure is kicking it off or the clutch is slipping, you are going to need to post the hi and lo pressures to get better help.
well the problem is i dont have the right fitting go on the high side.Theres was only one fitting that came with the kit and it only fits on the low side. what i did was release all the r12 that was left there then start the car, turn on the ac to max, put the oil that came with the kit, then put 3 bottles of refrigerant.. According to the gauge im still on the low side after 3 bottles. I drove the car to the store and the a/c was working fine..I shut off the car , buy the refrigerant then it started turning on and off... hope that helps.. what is the easiest solution to this problem? Can i just bleed some off on the high side?
There really isn't any good way to tell if it's overcharged unless you know the high side pressure reading with the ac on. But first make sure both fans are on when the ac is on. If one or both fans aren't working, the high side pressure will skyrocket when the car is sitting still and cause on/off cycling.
Also on another note, there is a sevice bulletin on 91-92 Legends for a faulty fan control unit. When these fail, it causes intermittent ac operation, though from what I've seen it's usually not a rapid on/off cycling as you've described.

well i let some pressure out from the high side and it now works. The compressor now turn continously but it still stops ones here and there but at least it runs now. I still want to know if it is still overcharge... One thing i noticed too is the temp gauge would go up past half when the car is stop even both fans are working.. When i start driving it, temp would go back to normal
Radiator heat will transfer to the condensor when the car is not moving forward, get it checked out, you may be overserviced but if you had a leak before then you have a leak now and it will leak out slowly and get better slowly.
The kit you put in is also called the DEATH KIT, you put oil in and oil takes up space, this leaves less space for the freon liquid and gas, the system is now less efficient. You now have r12 oil and r134 oil in the system and a less than perfect system, sorry to say.

As an aircan man I could tell you to spend a bunch of money to do it right but the system needs to be flushed of oil and freon, reserviced with the new oil and new gas to the correct level, that is it, a shop is going to have to do this and its not cheap. There are dozens of ways to do conversions and yours is DEATH.
Wait! Did you say you removed all the R12 and replaced it with R134a? Did you get the conversion kit that comes with o-rings and correct fittings?
well i just bleed all the air out from the low side till i don't hear air coming out, then i put the oil that came with the kit the put all the refrigerant. Btw the refill kit that i have is the one from kragen 38.99 lol
You didnt let out all the air until it stopped making noise, you let out all the freon and then you let in a bunch of air and not just air, moist air, MORE DEATH, get it to a shop and have it done right my friend or you will be buying another car with AC that already works, that is my professional opinion.
