Default Question for 6th generation Accords (98-02)

Exactly how long will the cv joints and wheel bearings go on 98-02 accords before needing to replace them? I have 137k 98 accord 4-cly and cv joints and wheel bearings are perfect. Has anyone had to replace them? Will they go 200k? All responses appreciated.

just check them regularly, like with every oil change and such, as soon as you see a rip in the boots but there is no sound, just re boot it. when it starts to click, change it, I've seen people go for a long time before changing them. My old Integra had 185k when I got rid of it with stock axles and it still has them 10k milews later.

reboot as soon as your see small CRACKS in the cv boots, dont wait till they rip. replace wheel bearings if there is free play or noise.

there are several factors

1. condition of the roads (IE potholes, dirt roads, etc)
2. weather
3. how much abuse the car gets.

luckily on the 5th gen cars you can replace the outer jointes independently of the inner ones.

There's only about 42k miles on our '98 Accord & I've already had to replace one rear wheel bearing. And all the rubber boots for front ball joints have been replaced because I noticed them beginning to deteriorate.

right now I've got 170k on the axles and CVs and they are fine. replaced a wheel bearing around 70k but it started to go bad before that, it just took that long for the noise to make me crazy---er.
