Default F4i mechanical questions.

I have noticed a few things on my bike since I have had it and put about 500 miles on it...

It did not come with an owners manual but I have one on order at Honda.

Here are some things I noticed, and I wondered if you guys know what the problem could be and how to fix it maybe.

1. When I am riding, RIGHT when it hits 6k rpms there is a metal rattling sound, not before 6k or after 6k, just right at it.

2. When I turn the bike off and roll it down my driveway into my garage, there is a squeeking that comes from what seems like the front.

3. When I turn the bike on, and Im letting it idle (it's already warmed up), I rev it to maybe 6-7k and right after it stalls?

FYI: it's a 2003 F4i

Thanks for all your help.

the rattling sound at 6K is the timing chain tensioner (sp?) I think it was a defect from Honda, it does that on all F4i. Even mine.

It can be replace to stop the noise...I wonder if it does any damage to the bike. I heard mix opinions on this.

Either camchain or pistons. On my old CBR it was a known issue for there to be 'a bit of slop'. Adjust the camchain and see if it goes away.

99% the pads dragging. Have just fixed a mates caliper as the pins were so seized they snapped during removal. Strip and rebuild the three calipers, it can only be a good thing for you to do. Also depending on age wheel bearings might as well be thrown away for the sake of how much they cost.

Thats fueling. Has it got an aftermarket pipe, if so perhaps it is in need of a power commander, they give decent results.

the rattle is your cam chain tensioner. Commonly abreviated to CCT. Every CBR has had this problem. I've even been told that suzukis and kawasakis also have CCTs that fail. Basically, the metal inside the CCT gets worn down and the tensioner itself begins to rattle. Then when it gets really bad, it actually loosens the timing chain, which will also rattle. It'll get extremely annoying after a while, and progressively get worse. Worst case scenario (after a long time) the chain gets so loose that the chain skips a tooth, you bend a valve, and wreck your motor.
If your bike is under warranty a dealership should be able to replace it for nothing. Otherwise, expect to pay out the *** to get it fixed. There's write-ups at forums.cbrworld.net on how to replace it yourself with pictures.
