hey guys, I'm rather confused about the serial numbers under the "B18C5" stamp on the block.
from what I've gathered, honda engines have a 7 digit serial # on the block under the engine stamp ... and the first number corresponds to which year the motor has been in production. For example, for a B18c1, a 1 would represent that the motor was made in 1994, 2 = 1995 and so on. I've noticed this/read about this pattern and it all adds up ...
Except, this doesn't seem to be the case with B18C5 motors ...

with that guy's motor (sorry, I needed an example), he is stating that he has a 97 B18C5 ... yet the first number of the engine stamp is 8! Now, if you used the above formula for the B18 series, it would come out to be a 2001 motor ... but clearly, they haven't made B18C5's for that many years, not to mention that the owner said it was a 97.
I'm stumped ... anyone have an explanation?

I think it because of the small differences between the Intake Cams and some bushings/cam caps are also 30% stronger then 97.
Best Motoring V0l 1 has a hole thing on how motors get better because Honda does more testing and improving even during production stages.
wow i am drunk
