painting lightbulbs
what do you guys use to reliably paint your bulbs to make the instrument/heater control buttons orange?
I'm trying out Testor's model enamel paint #1628 competition orange b/c some guy did his EG heater control bulbs and it seems to work ok.
Any other recommendations?
Thanks

Look for Tamiya model paints. They come in little bottles like Testors do, but a bit bigger. If you want to do amber, buy the transparent amber orange they make.
If you can't find any locally, email me (dieselboys_dsm@hotmail.com), and I can make arrangements to send you a bottle or two (hobby shop sells the stuff right down the street). It's about $2 a bottle, plus probably like $3-$5 shipping.
As for the paint, it's EXCELLENT. I did my corner lights, bumper lights, rear turn signals, gauge cluster, clock, and climate control lights in this paint, and they all look kick ***:
Crappy pic of my clock:

Pic of my corners and front turn signals:

That pic doesn't do justice to how dark shade of orange they are, as well as how bright they are. You can get the idea of how bright the garage was with them going off by looking in the background at the walls. BTW: that is with stock OEM corners and bumper lenses.

That's not one of the bulbs that's in the dash cluster. Or in the heater panel either.
The colored bulbs for the blinkers and sidemarkers are easy to get....

As far as the paint not lasting, its not true. I used the same paint on my Talons turn signal and corner bulbs over a year ago. They still look pleanty dark and pleanty amber.
Also, 194's are the correct bulbs for our gauge clusters and you'll need 4 of them. It's the rear defrost, and whole climate control that uses the tiny bulbs that you'll most likely only be able to find at the dealer.

I'm still not sure. I have never been able to find the honda gauge cluster replacements anywhere but at the dealership.
The dash doesn't use wedge bulbs. It uses some odd fabricated screw in bottom.

Actually there wedge type, you have to yank them out of the screw part. 1 sec let me go get the bulbs and show you. I also remember there being another site, and I can't remember which site I ordered them from. But either one had the bulbs. Here they are.
The painted bulb

The bought colored bulb, The little screw in device it goes into

And all the bulbs I have

If I had a better camera I would but I don't . Basically if you ever see the cluster on an rsx, thats what mine looks like with those bulbs.

Pull the vent assembly out, pull the clock out, crack the clock open, paint a clear piece of plastic the color you want, let it dry, cut it to size, put it in front of the clock digital facing, put the clock back together, put the vent ***. in, bam!

its work very well. I bought it for $25 from a local shop, and painted my bumper lense and the corners lights.
