Default '98 Accord EX V6. Code 70 - Automatic Transmission

We checked the check engine code using the paper clip method.

It's code 70, "malfunction with the automatic transmission controls"

Anybody know what this means, or if this is a serious problem...

Thanks!!!

Means your tranny is gonna go bye bye.

The 98-02 Accord V6 tranny's suck ***** and fail prematurely.

98-99 was two of the better years though. Is your tranny slipping at all?

I have noticed faint signs of slippage.

I first noticed it a couple of months ago when my battery died. I replaced the battery and alternator.

The slipping seemed to stop after replacing those parts, but for the past few weeks, I have noticed some imperfections w/ the tranny...

Is it hopeless?

Yea, go straight to the honda dealer. It may be past the warranty period though, being your car is a 98. It will cost around $1400 if not covered...

You can try changing your tranny fluid. That might it some. THe 98 and 99 are said to be the best so I wouldnt give up hope yet.

I wouldnt say that the 98-99's were the best since they all use the same tranny. Only thing the 98-99's are the best at is they respond the best to mods out of the 6th gens.

Topic: You may be able to get Honda to good will you a new one but more than likely they'll pay a percentage for a new one. Remember that if they say they'll pay a percentage for it then you can get any kind of tranny you want (it doenst have to be Honda OEM). Preferably the Dr. Evil built tranny.

Ok so they aren't the BEST but they are the better of the rest of the years. If they are the same then why would Honda only warrant the 00-01? It just wouldn't make any sense, the 98, 99, and 02 were left out of the extended warranty.

There is a problem but the 98-99's more than likely were out of warranty for quite sometime. THey extended the 00-01 because they were still within warranty or were just about to be past warranty. The 02 at that point in time should have had a large portion of the 3/36 warranty left. It was basically a move by Honda to protect resale value by preventing owners from flooding the market with Accords and letting owners know that Honda stands behind their product. Anyone with tranny probs with a 6th gen(98-02) should call Honda and more than likely they will help you get another one.

It was all very slight...

Just got a call from the mechanic...

$4,300 for a new tranny!!!

Is if safe to say that I'm being ripped off? (I do live in NJ, and everything is really expensive. But THAT expensive)?!?
