Default EF smoking and lost compression!

I need help with this I wanna buy this EF for my mom to drive and its only 300 bucks but that what the guy told me on the phone it started smoking and lost compression. But I have a D15B7 that lost compression as well is this worth putting the time and effort into so my mom can have a car?

Buy it, find someone with a good dx motor, they can be had for next to nothing and swap it in.

You can do that which is a good idea or you can buy a set of rings, bearings, and a gasket set rebuild the motor thats in there and your mom will be able to drive it for another 16 years

Forget that, save the time and either find a cheap/free d15/16 or $500 for sohc zc.

Personally I'd look for something newer than an EF...pretty much any old automatic is subject to not working. My dx auto acts up with 188k or so on the odo. Other than osaka I dont know any places that imports auto trannies...though theyre only like 200, so if you find a good running car with a crappy tranny and you have the know how you could swap it out. Good luck man.
