Default Tune it yourself part 2: more power all over the place (or "toda b's are yummy!")

Ok, I wanna keep this simple and get some reactions/ suggestions/ input here:

Here's my previous plot and attempt at tuning:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=97566

I'm still going by the very good directions in this thread for tuning:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=95064

Here's my current plot (as of this past Saturday:

Can you guess where my vtec crossover is?

And here's my current intake cam setting:

The difference between my previous tuning session and this one? I unbolted the catback to take that out of the equation... Fuel settings were changed on vafc. I played with different cam gear settings, but the car seemed to like +15,-5 which is how I had adjusted it before on accident... I also played with the vtec crossover, but ended up taking it back to where it had been...

A couple people on this board have gotten rides from me recently. I'll let them post up their impressions. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif" BORDER="0">

Once again, thanks Jack (B18CXr), Will (Willard), Steve (sgT), Jeff (Lip), and Jeff (importreview). <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> x100 to you all. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif" BORDER="0">

Hmm, where to begin...

Well, it feels a bit peppier than my Civic DX that I used to have. Ok, maybe A LOT faster than my DX and my stock R!!! It's quite amazing what extra ~30HP/20lbft + 4.93FD will do to the car. Kenny car pulls through the revs so quick, it makes my R look like a LS.

.....no comments on how to get more out of my setup?

Here is my old plot:
http://www.dynolab.net/images/hondas...1/html/ken.htm

Mods for both tuning sessions:

toda spec b's
toda gen 2 cam gears (set at +15int,-5exh)
toda valve springs
portflow Ti retainers
toda header
aem cai
godspeed test pipe
vafc
stock catback (unbolted for run #20+)

Any recommendations for getting more power out of this setup?

fpr/ fpg are needed, and possibly bigger injectors since I think I'm running out of fuel up top. Possibly with adding even more fuel up top, I can catch up to "rod-knee"... and this might bring my intake cam settings back closer to +5? (Thanks for the tips, btw Lip. :thumbup

After riding in a stock R and Ken's R on back to back auto-x runs, I was shocked at the different feel of Ken's car. Very noticeable difference in power and quickness of the revs.

Have you thought about using a 2.5" cat-back instead of the stock one?
It can give you a lil more top end power

Last time I was working on my car with the B's Toda told me never to exceed 5 degrees cam timing on either side. What gives with the +15? (other than the power )

Hey Ken...if you're at +15 on the intake cam...are you sure that it was installed correctly? How much of a degree change is there on one tooth of a cam gear?
Hell I thought that I was going a little overboard with +5, -5 for a street car...I'd be more than a little stressed with a +15

I bet Ken means 15 marks, not 15 degrees. Not sure how many marks = 1 degree on the Toda gears :???:

Ken - Lemme know when you finally get an aftermarket catback.

Pat, who is also running B's with factory catback

No, I meant what I wrote:

My cam gears are at +15 degrees intake, -5 degrees exhaust.

I figured I'd get some doubters, so that's why I posted the pic above of my intake cam for you non-believers. Toda Gen 2 cam gears take a little getting used to when trying to decipher..... But if you don't believe me, compare to the instructions on http://godspeed.hack.net/camgeardirections.htm . Look at the pic on the bottom left hand corner (where it says 15 degrees advanced.

Is it safe? Supposedly the toda gears won't let you advance more than 15 or 20 degrees ( i forget), so they're safe even if the bolts slip. I think that's one of their marketing gimmicks. Oh well, if they're not safe then on me because I've been driving around with them like this for 5k miles! No harm so far..... *knocks on wood*

Oh I totally believe you man. I am still in awe about advancing your intake 15 degrees. I would think something would be bad about that one. Also, as I mentioned, AKH told me not to go over 5 degrees or I'd mess something up. It's back to my theory of I they (AKH) were learning as I was learning too. I heard something different form them everytime I called. Interesting.

The last car i tuned ended up at +15 and +5.
Go figure....

My own car was +5 -8.

Never is the same.

Did the idle get worse as you advance the intake cam gear more and more? I most I tried is +5 on the intake.

One question, if I start to loss power when I change from +5 to +6, is it possible that I will make more power if I advance it to let say +10. Or will I just keep lossing more power as I advance it more? I want to know this because for dyno tuning purpose.

No. Idle is the same. You can tune the idle off the dyno, so don't waste your time and $ on the rollers playing with that. Tune from 3k up. Play with the idle by leaning out at ~800rpms, and adjusting the idle screw in the throttle body. IM me if you need help with this.

I can't say. Most tuners will tell you to change one variable at a time, and for cam gears only 2 degrees at a time. If you need more help with this, please refer to the links I gave in my original post above for tuning.
