why not?!?!?
Been there, owned one from 20K to 120K miles. Looks like a great candidate for the GRM $2006 Challenge. They were fun cars and would probably be more fun on an open track. But this low priced example is in need of some love and I am not feelin' the love right now. Good project for someone other than me.
boo hoo! oh boo hoo!
makes me super nostalgic for my first car; but mine was super well cared for for its whole life (until 116k miles, when i crashed her.
).
i'd give a whole bunch to have her back now the way i remember it.... wonderful car that never, ever, let me down!
gotta go now and find a tissue!

those merkurs are damn spiffy! i saw one at a divisional autox in kc, and the guy was using some front camber plates off a mustang that had to fit under instead of over the frame. gave the car an extra cool leaned back stance, and made for some crazy front inside lift coming out of turns. very fun to watch.

Don't worry, I'm sure we're gonna be hating all kinds of stuff by the time this is over.

There's something seriously wrong with some of you. Anyone who looks at this car and says "If <insert basically anything> I'd be all over this thing."
If someone had a 12-gauge pointed at my crotch and suggested that I should be all over this thing, I suppose I'd be all over this thing. But I wouldn't be happy about it.

This from a guy that once, and he was being serious, sent me an email that said...
"The Fiero looks like a pretty good ITA car."
I respectfully say to Karl... "Shaddup."

Didn't he want an Alfa too just like, what, 3 months ago? What happened Karl, you sober up?

He just has an severely short memory.
This is the same guy that had an MG in his garage for years. Basically a shelf with wheels.
He probably saw a Jensen Healy on the way home from work yesterday and thought "I bet that would make a nice..."
And then there was the $1000 BMW, that, surprisingly, drove like a $1000 BMW.

So basically, if the GLH had a European badge on the hood, he'd be all over this thang?

hi guys.
just looking at that old wreck on Ebay made me sit down and go thru all my old pics. here is what i dug up; most are post 1992 (married that year!):
my first car (1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo). i just about threw every part in the Mopar Performance catalog at this one! every spare penny from my paycheck went into it, and it was pampered. if it wasn't raining or snowing, the car got washed and chamoied dry every day:

this is my second car, which replaced the GLH after it was rearended on I295. it was, back in the day, "bad ***"!

i picked this one up just about a year after i bought the Syclone. it was very cheap, and one owner. after just watching the Barrett Jackson stuff on TV, i could just about kick myself for selling it 3 years later for $1650. it was a totally original, non molested, nice shape and good running 1966 Ford Galaxie 7 Litre convertible...

this one below was a really neat car to drive, but for every hour of driving, it was at least 3 or 4 of maintaining, troubleshooting, or running away from it screaming and crying... i bought it with 9k miles on the clock, with everything original, down to the wiper blades. i kept it til 1997, when i sold it with 14k miles on it. really really fun to cruise in, or take to the xmas party, or inlaws, b-b-q, etc.
it was a 1985 model, and, in my opinion, one of the cleanest designs of this particular model:

well, i guess thats enough stroll down memory lane for me!
todd
PS really wish i had ALL those cars back now! boo hoo! boo hoo!

Gee Todd, let me take the same stroll.
My first car was a 1975 Ford Maverick. Its motto was "Thank God For The Gremilin" because otherwise it would have been the ugliest car made in the 70s. The driveline was an inline 6 with a 3 speed transmission, the exact drivetrain from one of their pickups, and a Jeep CJ7.
Oddly I didn't chammy it daily or even bother to take pictures. But it DID actually have a good side with no paint chipping off.
Next up was the 1980 Cutlass. This one actually had that awful 260 V8 that had no power but at least got terrible gas mileage. After it broke the 10th tenth time and stranded me I sold it.
Again, no pictures. Go figure.
Then came the base model Sentra. Good car, but.... Well.
I then finally got the Civic Si, thank god.

Did that car eventually make it to South Carolina? I saw an identical looking '85 Espirit in a VW/Import shop here with them trying to figure out how to replace the danged alternator.
