Hard to get into 3rd and 5th
OK, so I got a 96 Prelude VTEC, and lately 3rd and 5th have been acting up, if I do a spirited start on the highway I will grind going into 3rd or 5th unless I really go slow with the shift, then it doesnt grind at all, any ideas what the problem is/what I can do?
Thanks for the help!

yeah i had that experience with my old tranny before. It was grinding 3rd and sometimes 5th. I would have to shift in 3rd smoothly otherwise it'll grind like a bitch. Until then, my reverse gear closed the door on me and i wont be able to reverse. I grab a used tranny from the junk yard to solve. Prelude stinks..

Damn, thanks, I hope you're wrong, but that's the exact same problem that I have so you're probably right hehe, oh well I'll see

Yeah you might want to shift easily if you want it to last longer. but it'll go soon..eventually.

3rd was the first gear to go bad on my h23 tranny. followed by 5th and 2nd soon innopperable.. best of luck drive it easy if you want it to last.. care for your syncros
heard by the time you replace w/new syncros, it cost around the same as getting a junk yard trany. If i'm a expert honda mechanic myself, i'll do it myself.
First, most import trannies have problems with synchro's goin out kinda of soon.
Second, if it's affecting only 3rd and 5th, you may have bent a shift fork on the inside while shifting hard and forcing it in.

This is pretty crappy news, my 3rd grinds unless I put it in real soft. 2nd will grind a little if i put it in hard.
How much do h23 trannies cost about at junk yards and all?

This is what my friend was saying, is there any easy way to inspect this? Sorry I'm a real noob

don't mean to jack thread but some times....once in a blue moon i grind the gears....i don't ever think to remember what ones....my tranny isn't going bad is it...just stupidity......and bad shifting...
I have the same 3rd and 5th problem with my h22, been about 15k miles. as long as I don't slam it into 3rd Iam fine and 5th I have to press clutch to take it out of gear (4th), let clutch out then press the clutch again to put it into 5th, in order for 5th not to grind
