throwing a cel for my vss. Safe to drive still? What's the purpose of this sensor? Only thing wrong that I notice while driving is the typical speedometer not working.

 

VSS-Vehicle Speed Sensor
Purpose is to tell you how fast you 're going.

 

it'll still be safe to drive but your mileage won't be counting. and if it's a vtec model, vtec won't engage

 

is that ALL it's for? just to tell you how fast you're going?

well it has 2 power steering lines running into it. i dont know what they are doing goin into the vss

 

hopefully it's just a poor connection that can be fixed with a jiggle or some thin copper

 

yep. Poor connection. Gave it a good ol jiggle here and there and it's a-ok now =]

 

Can anyone confirm that the h22's vss is vertical, as in the harness sticks straight into it from the top and the h23's are horizontal? I read a few people finding their sensors horizontal as that is what i found. Anyhow, if I were to buy a "vertical" vss, would that bolt up just fine to where my old vss was? I understand it's just one bolt for the sensor part right?

yup, h22 vss for the h22 tranny is vertical. i always remove the vss when i change the tranny fluid since its easier to fill pouring from the top.

not sure if an h22 vss will work on h23 tranny though. check the partsnumber on http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

 

The power steering lines running to the VSS are for the speed-changing power steering level. As in, at low speeds, you get more power assist than at higher speeds.

 

I see. thanks guys. My vss took a dump on me, but i dont want to buy a vss from an h22 tranny (vertical) if it doesnt bolt on to where my vss (horizontal) is. Gonna go check t he parts number now

 

damn part numbers dont match

 

weird. a vss for a 92 h23 isnt the same part as a vss for a 94 h23. However the 94 h23 and h22 do have matching vss part numbers though.

 

when i got my clutch installed the stupid mechanics broke my vss mount so right now it kind of just jammed inside the hole
