Enough With the Childish Comments About the Trophy Girls...
I heard them all weekend and I'm seeing them on this board. Grow the **** up guys!!!
Feel EXTREMELY fortunate that NASA has arranged a group of attractive young women to hand you your trophy and take pictures with you. In my years with SCCA this was typically done by some honorary old retired guy or the race director. Nothing against Grumpy, but I'd rather have my awards picture taken with 6 attractive young women in halter tops.
These girls can help both NASA and the ECHC. Publicity is good and they are great for publicity. Believe me when I tell you that I've already emailed my SCCA friends that photo of me and those girls and they are impressed. Not necessarily with the girls, but with the fact that NASA went to the trouble to HAVE THE GIRLS THERE!!! This is a good thing.
GET IT? PLEASE TELL ME YOU GUYS GET IT!!!
So enough of the bullshit remarks. It's the kind of stuff that can really **** up a good thing. Make friends with the girls, don't make fun of them like 12 year olds on the playground.
Scott, who probably just pissed off some of his friends.

The pretty trophy girl thing is weird. I understand the tradition, and I'm uncomfortably aware of the role(?) played by a certain type of woman at an import auto show (no biggee, the Bug and Chopper people have been doing it for decades to one degree of taste or another).
But, I don't understand why it must be. When I was watching SpeedVisions coverage of indoor and outdoor motocross over the last couple of years I got very used to seeing the exact same woman behind every rider interviewed. I know it's a glam thing - to hype the lifestyle which truth be told is alot of hardwork with victory and triumph going to a vast minority. Feeding the aspirations of the next wave - trying to make it look sexier than other alternatives for your time and money.
Does NASA or ECHC really need such a thing? Don't you run a sort of guilt by association thing with the rice show crowd? Is this the end of the early phase of the blossoming of a new era in amateur motorsports. Holy hot hatch Riceman!
Scott, who is too many thousand miles away to be deeply personally involved....or offended.....or sympathetic....to whoever.....but, yes, girls are nicer than old men.....you got a point there......and they were kinda cute.....but still......I think I would prefer a handshake and a bow from Gansan (the real one).............Girls or Gansan: they must be treated with respect.

But calling them derogatory names in a public forum is unacceptable and childish. And yes, I edited it.

Scott,
I do get it. It's a nice thing - when viewed appropriatetly (which is difficult and subtle). And I'm with you 100% on the unacceptability of saying bad things about them. Ok then. I'll take the trophy from the attractive young girl, then take a step or two to the side, shake and bow with Gansan, turn around, do the Schumacher jump thing, shake the bottle, spray everybody (except for Gansan and the girls - out of respect for them and their clothes (love those little sweaters he always wears)), then resume the unglamourous tasks that complete the average race day.
Scott, who does occassionally call people derogatory things on this board....he maintains only with good reason and sufficient provocation though.....

i wil stand in for Yack if need be, I get excited just thinking about standing with trophy girls
I agree with you Scott but exactly how avoidable will all of these comments really be? this is a pretty big conglomorate of people and opinions and it is unlikely that everyone is going to refrain from making some immature comment. There always seems to be one bad apple in the bunch.
I would also bet that any guy in here would love to be in the same spot, and are most likely jealous of those who are in the spotlight surrounded by beautiful women, I know I am. I don't think they would be making immature comments then.
i hope my post in the other thread was not considered immature, it was based on facts given to me by a pretty good source.
Morgan- who is now waiting for people to flame him for calling them jealous, but knows he is right

I find this pretty amusing. Why dissect this issue into 20 parts, what's the big deal here?
If NASA throws in this extra bonus, good for them! And yes, I do see it as a plus. View it any way you like it, but the least that comes out of it is that trophy girls do boost the image of the series, any series for that matter, and probably any sport period. Image is what attracts interest in the series in general, and I for one am for growth in this kind of motorsport activity. This aspect plus maybe having a more enjoyable time with everybody after the races is all I see going on here.
Don't know why the "silly" business started, or why there's such a "deep" discussion about this. Well that's my $0.02 anyway.

Just exactly how, if you don't mind, do you think the idea promotes a good image?
Racing is pretty much a guy thing. Sure there are some ladies out there that can rip it up(Im looking at R2X as she would probably own me on a track) but lets face facts. Racing is still male dominated in the public eye. So racing=males. Males LIKE hot females. Therefore Males at track+ female hottie trophy chicks= MORE $$$$. And isnt that what the game is all about? $$$$?? Sure its fun, but if it wasnt profitable or cost the promoters more than they make in revinue, it will not be done.
Well, I disagree about the professional characterisation.
I think it makes it far less professional for anyone to be seen using women as objects.
It's 2002, for goodness sake.

You say tomato, I say tomato. That doesnt work as well typing...
I like having the trophy girls there. As it happened to work out, a trophy girl became a very good friend of mine, and I'm glad NASA made that happen. They aren't objects unless you treat them like that. I treated her as a person (a person that I carried off after I got my trophy, but still a person), and I got a person out of it.
I didn't see the post that Scott was referring to when he started this thread, unless he is referring to the "street mod" comments, but I agree we shouldn't be children about this. Many sports, and other activities include models or cheerleaders. It doesn't lessen our professionalism, it adds to the overall "show", and THAT my friends is what Cobetto is a genious at producing. They are a part of the show, a part of the spectacle, a part of what might make some of the young "riceboys" want to be a part of the series. If we don't treat them like ****, there is nothing wrong with it.

Boy! There's things I get, and things I don't get, but here's something you aren't getting: the dudes in the flamesuits are the race Kings!
Just ask Scott formerly RoadRacer. Trophy girls prefer men in Sparco suits 3-1 over any other suit.
Alex - why disect it into 20 parts? Uhm, cause I just can't help it. For instance: why do you find it so hard to accept that some of us have a hard time accepting the place of such a thing in this thing that we do for reasons mostly independent of any linkage to that sort of thing. I suspect that you have something heavy going on in your psychology. What do you think of when you're racing? Wait! Maybe I don't want to know.
Ok, trophy girls are ok if 1) they're treated with respect, 2) they are unnaturally attractive, 3) they are above average in raw IQ and actual baseline mental activity, 4) they don't giggle at the dudes in suits other than Sparco, 5) "love you long time......NOT, 6) they hold a microphone up to you and ask "how was it out there" and then disect your response critically with respect to your performance, your use of english, your choice of drivers suit (if other than Sparco), and all that all that implies about the likelihood of your satisfying them sexually if in the unlikely event you were to find yourself in such a situation (your response had better not sound like Ward Burton talking).
Scott, who.....egad, I really can't help it......
