Default Strange transmission slip

Hi guys -

I searched for clutch slipping, etc. but couldn't locate my problem.

I just replaced the axles in my '92 hatch with "level 2" axles from the driveshaftshop.com The installation went smooth but when I was test driving the car, the driveline slipped very quickly right around 6000 RPM. It was like I had removed my foot from the throttle very abruptly and then reapplied it. This happened 4 times yesterday.

Here's the goofy part:

Today, I took it out again for testing. It happened the first time to me in a 2nd gear pull, but then did not occur at all thereafter (in any gear). This seems like a high RPM for the clutch to be slipping only intermittently. Does anyone have a guess at what might be wrong? The engine is a '93 B18A mated with a '94 GSR transmission.

I greatly appreciate any replys.

Did you ever replace the clutch? Is the trans cable or hydro? Open the inspection cover on the trans, any fluids, perticularly motor oil?

It's a hydro tranny that has, to my knowledge, the original clutch. I'll take off the cover tonight and see if I can see anything <shrugs shoulders>

Couldn't identify any fluids after looking through the inspection cover area. Could it have become dry after driving a bit if oil was present for some reason? Still stumped....
