Default K20a2 Race Exhausts - Do I use an O2 sensor?

I'm looking at race exhausts and such and Im not seeing bungs for the O2 sensor. Where am I getting my readings from for K-Pro and such? Do I just buy an AEM wideband and have a bung installed? If so, where on the pipe?

Anyone with some knowledge on this would be great!

Edit: Image Example from Six Sigma (DTR)

you might have to weld an o2 bung, but i would think that an expensive header like that would come o2 ready, or the o2 mught be after the header...

I would just ask him to add 2 bungs onto the header for you.

You think I need 2 Will? I thought that I'd only need the primary for K-Pro.

So you leave it plumbed but only use the connection for the dyno?

yeah most likely just for wideband tuning.

Boy, that'd be nice, a second bung for a wideband. Save a bit of time removing the normally-used one.

i think (keyword there) there is no hole for the O2 is because when u have a true "race" car, all your fuel maps and ignition maps are tuned and your ECU runs open loop, so i shouldnt need the o2 sensor anyway.

I believe there is a probe you can stick into the pipe (like an emissions sniffer) that acts like a wideband for tuning, so that is why there is no need for a conventional wideband. But then again, i could be full of sh*t.

See, that's what I thought too. That's why I asked.

Correct, in an environment when the car is only a "race" car there would be no need for any bungs. Most of the cars we deal with are street cars and require the stock sensor I like to have the second sensor in the header to get an accurate reading.

Steve, if you plan on running just the open header and no O2 on the street then keep it as it is.

I'm assuming that I'll need something for K-Pro, but is that a wrong assumption?

Good question... I thought that the primary o2 on the k20 acted as a type of wideband?

That's what I'm not sure of. Maybe I can ask Norris about it...

It is a wideband, you will need this for your Kpro.

In your case you could just add the primary 02 sensor.

Well, there is no perfect tune for all different conditions a race car will see traveling to different places (tracks). Another thing is that wideband and EGT(s) will give you a look inside of what the motor is doing in a run. If something is not right with the motor/run, the data you collected may help you find the issue faster and prevent damage.

You do not need them, but it helps.

02 is a good idea for datalogs going down the track and even at the dyno. usually i recommend 8-10 inches before the end of the pipe.
