Default Time to buy a racing suit

Just like it says in the title, I'm looking for recommendations as far as what to get. I'm looking for the 500-700 range and the Sparco Fashion 5 deal at Curpier seems to be the best out there. (with money left for underwear) I know a lot of people on here have started with this deal and how does everyone like it? Is it a suit thats good to start but everyone eventually moves up or are a lot of people satisfied to stick with it?

I really would like to buy right the first time and not have to upgrade later. As far as what I'm looking for, I'm a very temperture picky person so a 2-layer with underwear is what I want to do (also for keeping the suit clean). The other suit that interested me was the GF545 suit from G-Force. I started with a Bell helmet and immediately switched to G-Force and couldn't have made a better choice as far as comfort goes. Does anyone have experience with this suit?

Lastly has anyone tried the made-to-order suits that G-Force offers? If so, how is the quality and price? Normally the custom fit option would scare me away for cost reasons but seeing as the high end GF545 is like 399.99 most places, I started to wonder how bad the price could really be.

i second that, i need a suit so i bought a cheap pyrotech suit. Well it simply sucks *** for anythign other then freezing cold nights at an enduro, and wrenching on a hot car.

Which is what i will use it for as soon as i get the money for a new suit.

as for which suit to buy, im not sure, i think im going to go with a sparco ultra lite

I've had my hands on the GF545, and I honestly thing it's very difficult to do better for the price. It's amazingly lightweight. No, it didn't feel lighter than the $1200 Sparco suit hanging next to it....but it didn't cost $1200, either.

Charlie, the guy who owns saferacer, uses the GForce suit. When he could pick anything off the shelf and he picks that one, that says enough for me.

The gang at saferacer will take good care of you, too.

Is there anything like the GF545 (in terms of price & performance) in a 3 layer suit? I'd personally prefer not to use the underwear.

I bought that Sparco Pro Cup Suit last November and i love it. Its not to expensive and its a good suit. It wasn't to hot last time i used it which really surprized me. I would definetly recommend this suit.

Even though it's two-layer, SCCA doesn't require underwear with the GF545 suit - it's rated as an SFI 3-2a/5.

I don't know about any other sanctioning bodies.

ps - if it fits and you really want 3 layers, I'll sell you my OMP Superfirst suit.

I have a Gforce 545. I have only used it once for my comp school but Ive been happy with it so far.
The only complaint I have is the fit. Only comes in lettered sizes, and it is cut to a standard lazy american pot-bellied build. So I end up with a suit that is a little baggier than I would like. I wear a numbered size 62, and Im right in between the L and the XL.
My guess is that most guys will fit well into the L size though, so YMMV, it may fit you perfect. Just make sure to try it on first though. And do the whole sitting down turning a steering wheel thing to test it out.

The Pro Cup is a nice suit but no longer produced and I doubt the sale at Saferacer will have my size. I also like the normal style collar rather than the kind on the Pro Cup. Any opinions on the Fashion 5/Replica or Sparco 5/Sponsor 5? It seems like each suit has 2 versions, 1 normal and one fancy.

Good question BTW...

Wow, I guess it's been two years ago already... I wound up finding some killer deal on a Momo 3-layer something-or-other suit. When it's fricken hot out the last thing I want to have to do is wear any additional clothing. However I have the option of wearing underwear during the fall and spring months.

As far as underwear protecting the suit from becoming all scuzzy, I've found out after laying in a bath of transmission fluid, my local dry-cleaner did one heck of a job cleaning the suit.

Advice, buy as much safety you can afford, and don't bathe in transmission fluid.

I really liked my Sparco Sprint 5 for 2 years. I thought it was an awesome suit for the price.
Then Renee got here Momo Cup suit from LTB Motorsports last year. Its rated the same, is stitched better (the stitching has frayed on my Sparco 3 times), and is lighter (significantly so). Amazingly it was also cheaper than my Sparco.

The Cup suits are out of production now, but after seeing the Momo quality I will very like choose it over Sparco if/when I ever buy another suit.

Yea, i don't know what the deal is on sparco stuff anymore. The stiching on a few of my things have become frayed, quite easily. I know wear and tear happens, but the stuff is brandnew.

that's why you aren't gettin any chicks

fwiw, several of my friends have the 545 and it seems like a great suit for the price, if it fits. like he said, the euro suits come in finer size granulations so you can get a better fit.

I got a great deal on a momo from LTB. I am very happy with it, 'cept I dont get any chicks.

So Sparco's a maybe now, G-Force is good if it fits, and Momo doesn't offer too many styles but is good. Has anyone at all gotten a custom fit suit from G-Force?

I considered getting the custom suit. But it almost doubled the price.

G-Force offers all of their suits in a Made To Measure style. In other words, you can get the GF545 built to your measurements for about $640, not bad for basically a custom suit. They also offer a complete custom suit, your design or from one of theirs (you can see them on our website). They can get pretty expensive. It's going to be hard to find a suit that offers the features of the GF545 at the same price. Any G-Force dealer can quote the MTM or custom suits.

How about the Pro Light? I can't seem to find much official info on these suits but found them at UPRacing.com Are they 2 or 3 layer?

Agh not the X-Light, too much $$, I mean the Pro Light, which came out at the same time but isn't listed on the Sparco site... or for sale many places for that matter.
