hello once again

i have attached a picture of the chipping which is circled in red...



the paint on both sides of the car is flaking off... has this happened to anybody else?

i have a can of flat black paint, but it needs to be applied with a fine paint brush...

do you think i can sand the rest of the paint off and just go over it after i mask off the window / door?

You can sand and paint, or get a replacement.

If you do sand and paint, you have to get everything down to the chrome, or it will crack and flake from underneath your new coat of paint.

 

Is it okay to just wipe all of the chipping stuff off, or do you have to repaint? I've noticed that lately also, especially on my passenger side. Haven't noticed any rust or anything?

 

do you think the whole paintbrush idea is bad? this stuff is like rustoleum in a can, but i cant spray it.

im just gunna sand off what i have now... and repaint over it. ill post pics when im done

dude, just sand the **** down and spra it with some flat black paint.... it's not that hard...

 

just tape that **** off use newspapers or bags tape them around your car so you dont get overspray anywhere and go to town

 

oh just get a new door....

Take the trim pieces off completly, don't mask anything. They won't rust cause they're aluminum. When you're done painting, they won't match the other trim pieces, so if you care about it enough you should paint them all at the same time.

Anyways. There has to be something better than flat black paint to replicate that **** that is coated on there. From past experience ive noticed that flat black paint tends to have areal dull look. So it wont look right I bet...

Maybe that one **** will work... You know that black **** you put on a truck bed?

 

Go to your nearest dupont/ppg/martin senior paint distributor
and ask for a pint-quart of bumper coating (black) or trim paint.

Good stuff. Coated mine 2 yrs ago. No fading, no chipping.

 

aw ****. i didn't kno there was such a thing. How does this bumper coating stuff look? Do you have pics? I want to take my sideskirts back to the stock look but flat black aint crackin

 

hey, I had the sme problem you didthe dealer wanted $120 for them both...... h

I jsut took a razor blade to the flakes and stripped the rest of the rubber with the razor blade. the coating on those is a thick rubber. As far as sanding, just think how fun it would be to sand rubber.

After i scraped all the black off to make it all chrome. I put 3m electrical tape on it and it looks OEM..

TRY IT IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD AND COST NOTHING IF YOU HAVE A RAZOR BLADE AND TAPE.

i was reading all of this and nobody posted electrical tape until the end. it WORKS, and looks OEM, you can't even tell its tape. Try it, if you don't like it then take it off.

yeah at first i didnt believe that it was rubber, but you guys are right! damn its a pain in the ***.

I know they come off... I just don't know if they'll go back on...

They're held on by plastic (maybe metal?) clips that'll probably break when you take them off, but as we all know it's usually the part that the clip attaches to on the piece that you're removing that breaks. I got mine off my sedan without any issues, but I may have been lucky, I don't know.

it'll oxidate unless u seal it with something

 

If you want it I suggest that instead of flat black. (SATIN black) Its flat but it still have a little shine to it. and its darker. $2.59 at you local harware store. big can. trust me its what you need. at least check it out

 

Anyone have a DIY removal on that piece? Looks like a real bitch to take off.

 

a diy for that??

just take off the pillar thingy that is on the side of the door and then pull it off. there are white clips that hold it in place so you have to push the black piece around to unclip it, but in most cases the clips will just snap.
