engine lock up

so what exactly is going on when a engine "locks up" whats best way to be fixed, or can it even be fixed?

when it locks up or seizes, the rod the is connected to the crank and the piston could be bent and cause the crank not to move, as long as you didn't crack your block you could rebuild it
