In a straight line? Who cares?
These are 04 specs
YZF-R6 ('04) quarter mile 10.68 @ 129.3
GSX-R600 ('04) quarter mile 10.65 @ 128.8
If you just care about straight line speed, get a busa.

granted im biased because i own an 05 R6, but the motor was totally reworked for 05 on the R6, i dont know about the gixxer6 though. but even with the 04 numbers its pretty tough to say which would win in a race when theres a difference of that little....its all totally a drivers race imo.

if ur draggin the bike, the 05 r6 stock went 9.xx seconds the quickest of the 05 600's(i forgot what magazine it was in) and the only other 9 second 600cc bike was the kawai 636 2nd place, but its also considered to be in the 750 class with that extra 36cc.
If you check R6Messagenet, you will find posts saying that that a lot of the fuel injected R6's have been having problems with the motor dying unexpectedly. Most common is that they sometimes will die when you pull the clutch and let off the gas to turn or change gears. The bikes seem to have no problem starting up, but you could imagine the problems this could cause if you're riding hard and power drops when you're trying to power through a turn.
Yamaha has denied there's even any problem, although there's been MANY people complain about this same issue.
Personally, I like the R6's and think they're great bikes...but there's no excuse for this problem, or Yamaha's denial of it. I would not buy an R6 until Yamaha takes care of this issue, not would I reccomend anybody else buying one.

Yeh even the carb'd ones have serious issues with their jet's....i guess when they sell 3 r6's for every other bike on the road there is bound to be issues, but I agree i personally won't buy an R6....at all....ever....heh..

I had an 00R6 that was a great bike. It had carbs, and aside from the flat spot that I believe was right about 4k, it was really smooth. I had absolutely no other issues with the bike at all. It made big power, compared to my friend's 03 600RR. In a straight line, the Honda had no chance. Of course on the curves, it's more rider ability, so that's not so much of a fair comparison.
