I used to boost a d16 back in the day with no funky sounds, now I finally got my gsr turbo tuned at 298 whp and 213 torque. But when I get to about 5k in 3rd gear, man theres a loud *** funky sound till redline, I tought it was valves going balistic but my tuner said its normal???? Hard to describe the sound, do all gsr turbos have this loud *** sound?
Could it be my wastegate, but I dont reach full boost when the loud *** sound starts, its like a mad engine growling.

if your D16 had an internal gate . i tmight be cuz your new setup prolly has an external gate. so it gets loud once it hits vtec and full boost

However, if it does sound like BB's shaken up in a coffee can..than you're probably being faced with detonation.

 

Yeah its a extenal wastegate, it aint detonation, so is my wastegate already dumping before max boost?

ive got the same thing, mine is especially loud because my WG dumps out of the left front wheel well, right below my window... it basicly sounds like a really loud, exhaust leak (ive had so many exhaust leaks im used to the noise )
