Is this a fucked up deal or not? I called my local auto mechanic and he said parts and labor would be 470 dollars.

It depends on what brand of clutch your getting. Chances are it's not anything special. Why not just buy a good clutch and put it in yourself? Doesn't take that long. And it'll save you you at least 200 dollars.

Yeah, I would say so. Parts at the most $250 for a exedy stage one organic kit. So oem would be like $150 at the most and labor $150 at the most. I would do it for $350 w/ exedy labor included.

Is the organic a racing clutch?

Its the Stage 1. Its better than stock, but without the harsh characteristics of a puck style. I would categorize it as a "sport" clutch...more than enough for a stock to mild motor driven on the street.

the going rate by shop books is 5hrs for a clutch job. some mechanics can do it in less time and thats how they make profit. avg. shop charges $65/hr labor it would run ya $325 plus parts, $150 -ish, gives your total 475. Bamm! so to do it for a $100 is $20 or more per hour. still good money.

I can also vouch for the exedy organic. grabs nice but its a bit more touchy than cheaper ones.

I got me a clutch 3 days ago called a dynopak. It was 140 from autozone. I also bought a new battery and a master cylinder. Plus im getting a cv-joint if i can get the old one off. I dont know if i got a good clutch but it says it comes with all that ****. Thank you for your opinions. I'm probaby just going to install it myself. Don't you have to take the whole engine out just to put a new clutch in?

Oh man...a good service manual is your friend. Seeing as how you've never done it before, im willing to bet you WILL be there all day and some. Air tools would help a lot too.

If he called a regular shop, then yes that is a very reasonable price. Clutch jobs for a EF civic call for roughly 3.5-4 hours. 4*70=$280+ $150 (for clutch) is $430. Maybe I'm a little of on the labor rate or the flat rate hours.

Helm's manual is the best or a Chilton's will do. Good point, air tools would make it go a lot faster.
