87 Accord will not start after a rain storm
My 87 Accord will not start after a rain storm. The engine will crank over and there is spark at the plugs. The fuel filter has been replaced. The engine will start after a few hours of drying time and will run fine until the next storm. Any ideas on where to start looking for a solution to this problem?
My 85 would die after driving in the rain a short time, pull over and wait 3 minutes or so and it'd fire back up. I replaced the dist cap and all the plug wires but it didn't help. I ended up spraying silicon all over the wiring on the passanger side to get rid of the problem. Not sure where the problem was/is but it fixes it for about 6 months then I reapply it again. just dowse it down every little bit cures the problem. I check the oil I just grap the silicon out of the trunk and spray every wire down.
Next time you've got some time (and a nice day on your hands), start your car and start spraying the plug wires with water from a spritz bottle. If the wires have become pourous, the engine will start misfiring as the spark energy finds an easier path to ground (rather than trying to jump the spark plug gap)

Pouring some water over the distributor cap is a good idea too.
