Default B17A1 head on B18C1 block. Pros and cons?

Ok so the other night I accendentally threw a money shift and I bent some valves in my B18C1 on cylinder 3. I have this B17A1 long block sitting in my garage and the head is all assembled except the cams have been removed. I know the B17 head is basically a B16 head so I'm curious how my performance, compression ratio will be altered. Will the compression be higher or lower? Will the engine be more responsive or less? I guess its basically a poor man's type r minus the pistons/ & mild PP.

Also my friend told me something about using the B16 exhaust cam and the GSR intake cam or visa versa.

Any help is appreciated.

-Chris

Your compression will drop by .2 so performance would be slightly reduced... If you use a 2 layer headgasket, that should keep your compression the way it was. I'm not sure about the rest.

Isn't the B16 combustion chamber a little smaller though?

Nope, it's actually 42.7 cc's vs 41.6 cc's for the b18c1 head

Thanks for the numbers . What about the cam issue. Do you have any idea what kind of setup I should use. Should I mis match the GSR/B16 cams?

That's the part I'm not sure of...maybe someone else who's played with that cam combination before could tell you....

Bump for All Motor goodness. Is there anything positive from doing this? At least I won't have the *** of an IM like on the GSR anymore. Anyway I'm starting project swap out fucked up head in a couple hours when its not so hot.

So the B17 cams are the same as b18c cams?

Buddy Club Spec 3's would work well for your setup.
BTW use a OEM gasket and only use one layer to gain a little compression

while looking for the thread that said the b17 has gsr cams, i found other threads saying the b17 cams are closer to being 92+ b16 cams.
