How to tell which tranny you have b16???
I have a gen1 pr3 b16 swap the swap was already in the car when I got it. I had a new motor put in but never looked at the tranny. I've been trying to figure out which tranny it is by looking at the tranny but I can't find nothing. Do I need to jack it up to see?
where should i be looking?

i dont know if there is a tranny thats better than the rest...i guess it depends on your own opinion. If im not mistaken the JDM Y1 was the only one with optional LSD. The S1 on the other hand has closer gear ratios which is good for acceleration, but shitty for cruising on the highway. I've had both...and I prefer the Y1.
The only way i can think of to disinguish between the two is by watching your vtec crossover point in 5th gear. When i had my Y1, vtec would kick in at 90 mph in fifth. With my S1, it kicks in at around 80 mph. Not sure if its an accurate way to tell them apart but its the only difference I noted between the two.
hope that helps.

I run my car 65 tops on the highway my CF hood has came up to many times. At 65 in 5th gear its in the upper RPM real close to vtec.
What is the difference in the J1,S1,YS1?
I'd love to know which tranny I got but not sure how.

hands down. The Ys1 cable! The only true way of figuring out the tranny. Is either the GEARING you have. OR do what i did and crack open the case and count the gears on the input shaft and the final drive.
With my ys-1 i can cruise at 80- and still be under 5k. if that helps any

Everyone is posting what speed they are and what RPM they are @ with thier tranny. Almost all the information posted above is irrelevent cause we dont know your rim and tire size witch affect RPMs and speedo readings.... There is a calculator which you can input what RPM,tire, rim size and gear and it tells you RPM and MPH but I cant remeber what the link its... Its like crxmath or something.
good luck
