maximizing power from stock engine
i have a 97 civic dx. i'm looking to maximize power gains without internal work (class rules).. intake manifold changes are permitted. my knowledge of engine science is limited so this is the perfect place to ask for your help to get additional edge to win the season..
with the exception of a stand alone ecu, are there any chipped ecu's out there to gain power (better fuel map, timing?, etc).
since the cat is located pretty much against the block from the exhaust manifold, i was considering having a custom exhaust manifold made and relocate the cat to under the car like most vehicles. with the displacement, my guess for better power gains was using 2.25" piping from the cat and all the way back.
any ideas on other areas i can increase power gains? intake manifold? tb? timing? thanks for your help in advance.

I'd definately do the intake manifold. I'm assuming your car has a dpfi setup right now and it would gain a lot from changing it to the mpfi setup. Not sure if that is legal according to whatever class you're running though.
For the ecu chipping you could always chip it yourself to whatever specifications you'd like. Check out pgmfi.org if you're interested in that kind of stuff.
Edit- I dunno anything about chipping obd2 ecus...

No, he has four injectors. Only the EF's had DPFI.
Everything from 1992+ has MPFI standard.

thanks for the website.. looking very helpful.. fortunately, i'm permitted to switch to obd-1..
