Default Putting a 3" DP flange and pipe on 2.5" turbine outlet good or bad idea?

Wassup guys,

I was thinking about swapping my 2.5" DP setup for a 3" DP. My concern is the area where the 3" DP connects to the 3" pipe.

I think the flange style I have is called the Ford style flange. I was afraid that there wouldn't be enough material around where the pipe meets the flange. See in the pic belo how thin the metal is between the inner rim and outer rim? From the looks of it the weld seam will be right up against the edge. So I guess I have to be careful when I weld up my stuff to not leave too much slag around the bolt holes.

But it's pretty normal to weld up 3" DP's with the weld seam right there at edge of the flange right?

Are you using a MIG or TIG? You shouldn't have any problems with a TIG but a wire fed MIG might leave a lot of slag.

I've got a Hobart 140 MIG welder and more then likely I'll use a 75/25 mix instead of a tri-mix. Also...I wont use the flux core, I'll use the gas and regular MIG wire.
