Default humiliating night

Ok, most of you are probably unaware of my turbo project that i've been slowly working on the last 5 years. I've been on the crx discussion forum and its predecessors for about 8 years. Just recently came over to as the throughput is much higher here and can find much more detailed info with lots of rumaging through archives. Anyways. I would consider myself as a pretty intelligent person, but after what happened this evening, you would have to think otherwise. In the last week, I have gotten my car up and running for the first time in 5 years. I was ecstatic, but like always, there are still many things to iron out before the car is actually finished. The roll cage needs to be built, the glass needs to be installed, mirrors, a little paint, ... list goes on with a bunch of little stuff. But none the less, i'm still excited and upon better judgement I decide to take it on the road for a block or 2 spin.

I get out, a little hessitant of reaching boost, but i'm a little daring. Go down the street causiously, hoping that the car stays in one peice and doesn't spring a leak. Get to the end, things are great, and turn back around and give it a little more speed. Engine is sounding and running great. Get back to the garage and start to pull it in then change my mind. I decide, lets go take another run. So i get going, start in first and build up easily to about 5k and shift to second, i can see the boost gauge build up to 0 and i decide to give her a go...get up to about 6lbs and going about 40mph and all of a sudden BAM! the hood come flying up!!! WTF, i start to brake without seeing anything and get to a stop. I am a fricken retard and forgot to put the hood pins in. It wasn't running through my mind before because I figured I was just going up the street and back. I get out and drop it back down. The hood is pretty much bent in half, and there is a decent size dent in the top of the car where the hood hit. I get back in and turn around, as i'm going to shift into second shifter goes loose. Great, now I remember I never bolted the linkage support arm to the tranny and there is no way i'm going to get under the lowered car. So I let it coast as far as it will go and get out and push. Talk about a humiliating day. I post this story in hopes it may be used as a lesson for preparation and maybe to give someone a good laugh. No need to bring me down any further, but maybe share your own humiliating stories.

At least some good comes out of it, always wanted the ZC hood! I'll try to get some updated pics for you soon. I'm going out to socal this week, so it won't be for a little while.

That sucks, the hood thing happens more often than you'd think. I know several people that have had the hood come open on them. Did it bust the windshield too?

This is true! Here are some pics from about a week ago. You will probably notice some things disconnected, but everthing has since been taken care of. I'll try to snap some more pics of the damage possibly tomarrow. And don't give me any crap for the rear spoiler, it is a project of mine that i'm doing for a fully automated adjustable rear spoiler using ball screw linear actuators and a pic microtroller with motor drivers.

It's about damn time man! I still remember you first playing around with your initial turbo setup 5 years ago on the CRX board.

But when it comes down to it...**** happens, and you move on. Hell I blew up my ZC within 5 minutes because I forgot I had carbon shavings in my oil due to a blown head gasket.

Nope, i'm flying out to see my gf in Temecula. Although I have done the drive about 4 times when she would move back and forth from school for the summer. We both graduated from Iowa State University. Her family lives out there, and i'm still in Iowa working at Rockwell Collins. Maybe they'll let me take the hood carry on

Pics from this past weekend, my buddy is in the passenger seat with me, he runs H1 Honda Challenge and I wanted some pointers to be fast on the track.

Here are what the OEM big brakes look like on the track 15" wheel, ITR caliper, EX knuckles, redrilled Prelude rotors.

Well I put the crx dash in my 91 hb a long time ago, so I was planning on using an aluminum dash in the crx. Well I had a peice bent with a 90degree and it just looked stupid. A buddy of mine had a spare teg dash in tan for $15, so I bought it and spent another 10 on SEM black vinyl die. The price was right, and the cluster looks pretty good.

Going into about my third year of HPDE's (track days) with my CRX, it is only a DP 1.5 (building bigger motor) but it is fun to chase down Vettes in the esses. It was nice to be able to run DEEP into the corners with my big brakes and just out brake everyone. It was a great weekend, DrDisco69 also came out with me also in his CRX. VIR (Virgina International Raceway) is a super track.

Here are some pics the Dr took http://www.coe.uncc.edu/~mdkeena/pic/VIR/

Have a 88 CRX to build a Honda Challenge H4 or H5 car just haven't started it yet. And if you look at the pic above you will see where I kiss the guardrail...good to test the limits of the car but wow, I was like come on baby don't hit the guardrail. Didn't even scratch the surface of the back bumper I got lucky just paint transfer.
