Default obd 1 distibutor vs. obd 2 distibutor

Do I need an obd 2 engine harness for and obd 1 motor. Will all of the plugs match up for the senors and do I have to change the distibutors from obd2 to 1. Because I am putting and obd 2 motor in an obd 1 car. I heard all I need is an obd 1 ecu and obd1 distributor. But I want to know if I can use and obd 2 wire harness for the motor.

You'll need an OBD1 harness as well.

Say you are putting a GSR into an EG, and you have the entire harness on the motor side. It will plug straight in however if you have an OBD1 distributor the plug for that is different. Newer OBD2 style plugs are one single plug, the older OBD1 have two plugs with the same wires. What i would do in ur situation is keep the distributor but modify the distributor side plug. If you can get ur hands on an OBD2 style plug get that and match the wires to their internal components and it will plug staight in. Hope this helps and good luck!

ok..if you plan on getting a full blown 96+/OBD2 B-series engine and dumping it into an OBD1 equipped car, make sure you get the engine harness as well. IT WILL PLUG INTO YOUR OBD1 HARNESS (at the passenger side shock tower). Although, a couple plugs will not be used, it's ok, everything will run. You can also reuse any OBD1 ECU you were using before, provided it's meant to run a DOHC VTEC engine.

I hope i answered your question the right way....i have a feeling i read your post wrong....heh..

here's a pic to help...
